The day I almost ate a donut!

Tuesday, January 08, 2013

I had been following a healthy life style for a few weeks when this happened.

I was at my daughter's home over the holidays. My daughter and I are trying to be more healthy and had worked on the holiday menu to have only healthy stuff. Unfortunately a guest at her home "had not got the memo". She had bought a very large box of Tim Horton's donuts. (I have a wicked sweet tooth.) I eyed the box for hours and finally I was going to have one. I worked out the calories and what I would have to do to "earn" the treat. Knowing the box was at my daughters was easy because I knew I would be leaving the little beasties behind when I left. I did not have enough self control yet to have a box in my home and not eat them!

So the moment comes and I am still wishing I had the strength not to indulge but at least I was going to do it mindfully. I lift the lid and well what I can say. The donuts have been there for a while and the heat in the home had melted the icing, now they almost have a slimy look to them. The icing has pooled at the bottom of the box around each donut. They did not look fresh!!

I was able to look at the donuts in a different light. For sure, in that state, they were not worth the calories!! I was able to walk out of the kitchen minus a doughnut and of course did not have to make that entry on my food tracker!!!

In the past few weeks I have thought about this and been able to past over a few cravings. I love that I am back in the drivers seat. Each little victory builds on the next!
