Day 3 - 6

Well it has been a while since I've blogged, but I'm trying to be consistent, and this time no wife that nagged me into doing this! Go me!
Well today was an eye-opener for me nutritionally. What I had presumed to have been a not-so-healthy breakfast turned out to be a very not-so-healthy breakfast.
I normally do not have breakfast in the morning: my break-fast does not usually occur of my own choosing until between 9-11 in the morning. However with the attempt of eating healthily and building up our metabolism we determined that both eating early and more frequently does indeed increase our metabolism, allowing us to burn more calories throughout the day. Breakfast early in the morning is a major adjustment which my body to this day (even after a year of doing it) still does not comply with, but I try to support my wife and thus I eat breakfast before work so that we eat together. However, I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON (despite what my wife may think) so my choices are more reflective of my id and less on my logical side. My id likes sweet things, and thus when eating in the morning with little cognition I try to create sweet foods. This inevitably leads to high carb intake. This fact was proven undeniably by my choice of breakfast: oatmeal (some carbs), apple slices (more carbs, but not a whole apple), banana (technically half of one and not as many carbs as the other two), vanilla soy (surprisingly high amount of sugar for a milk substitute), brown sugar (oh boy), and maple syrup (bye-bye carb limit).
So not only do I have an extremely high carbs content to start of my morning, but a high caloric intake at that. But hey, breakfast is supposed to be the heartiest meal of the day: things should taper off from there. Lunch did prove that since I only had a sandwich for lunch, but I will say that BY lunchtime I WAS STARVING!! I have come to realize that whenever I walk home from work for lunch (and the walk to work as well) increases my metabolism, burning off food, and making me hungry!!! And unfortunately that one sandwich just did not cut it. However I did not succumb to temptation and buy more food (my wife and I are attempting to curb spending as a whole with baby on the way), so I waited.
After work, and after a doctors appointment with my wife, we both went to McDonald's (yeah, brilliant idea). Since my wife is indeed pregnant going too long between meals is VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD! And I was of course hungry by this point since we decided to walk from my work to the doctors office, which is even further than home! And rather than being logical and choosing a cheap snack, my tummy took over and got their wonderfully tasty Angus Mushroom and Swiss Burger, and stole half of my wife's fries and soda. So yet another high caloric meal, and what should be the smallest meal of the day (dinner). Not only that but it also leaves a nasty after taste since we've both been used to eating more healthily (side effect to eating healthy: unhealthy foods also now just dont taste as good anymore! who knew!) .
Finally, to top my whole evening off, by 10pm tonight I felt hungry AGAIN! But rather than fixing a whole meal (I was not THAT hungry), I made a type of sandwich: a completely carb sandwich (four slices of wheat bread, grape jelly and honey).
So there goes my day. Pray that I make much healthier alternate foods for myself. This week si grocery week so I will try to stock up the fridge and cupboards with healthier snacks and foods.
