Day 8, feeling great and down 10.2 pounds.
So, I'm getting a lot of questions about the juice fast I'm doing, so I thought I'd address them all in a blog.
My husband and I watched several documentaries over the past year about the sad state of our food supply here in America, and holistic approaches to treat cancer and other illness, and they all kept leading us back to juicing. Naturally we were most intrigued with the weight loss it provides, but also in cleansing and purifying our toxic bodies. We decided to "reboot".
So, we bought ourselves a juicer for Christmas and we started Dec. 30th to get a jump start on a healthy new year.
We do all of our juicing in the evening for the next day. We fill Ball jars to the top to avoid oxidation and retain as much live nutrients as possible and line them in the refrigerator for the next day. I drink 2 jars of fruit juice (one for breakfast and one for a night snack) and 2 jars of Green veggie juice (one for lunch and one for dinner). I also drink about a gallon of water a day. My husband drinks one more green juice than me...although it's not totally repulsive to me, it's not my favorite one honestly and I have to force myself to drink it. The fruit juice is awesome though...Pear/Celery/Ginger is my FAVORITE!

This is my breakfast for tomorrow. Pear/ Celery/Ginger Juice
Last week I ate a little raw fruits and veggies and afew walnuts, but this week and next I'm doing just juice. I'm doing a 3 week fast. Then to get off the fast we are supposed to gradually bring in small amounts of raw fruits and veggies the first week and carefully bring back cooked food and animal proteins the next week.

Dinner! Kale/Celery/Lemon/green apples/cucumber/ginger/pineapp

Coincidently, this weekend at church the pastor spent a lot of time talking about fasting. He encouraged us all to fast and gave us some information on different ways to do so. I'm spending the time I'm not cooking and eating doing my daily devotional, praying and journaling. I think this is a wonderful time to grow spiritually and quiet myself to hear the Lord.
I'm still cooking good healthy meals for my kids, they have been enjoying baked chicken and veggies, edamame, lentil soup, meatballs and plenty of fruits and veggies. My 3 year old has questioned us on why we are not eating and it totally made me want to cry. I promised myself that I would never expose my daughter to see me "on diets" or hear me criticized my weight or appearance...and here she is asking me why I'm not eating. I try to tell her that Mommy's juice is making her strong or that I'm going to eat later. This has been the only negative thing that has come out of the cleanse. BUT it reinforces that this has to be IT!! From this point on our life style is healthy and balanced. After this fast, we are all eating meals together again, and mommy isn't sneaking snacks when the kids aren't looking. I intend to do short juice fasts once or twice a year after this. Her awareness makes it even more imperative that I get it in gear for the long hall.
So that's my juice fast so far...until next time.
Cheers!!
