I have successfully logged all of my food for 5 days straight. I don't think I've done that in over a year!
Today while logging my food plan for the day I noticed that I didn't have enough calories planned for the day! Wow! Talk about a shock. It's such a treat to be able to eat more!!
There have been some noticeable changes in my diet. I've been packing my breakfast, lunch and snacks and watching my portions at dinner. I'm trying to eat a piece of fruit or a vegetable with every meal. I've also almost completely cut out protein shakes and bars. I'm trying to get all of my protein from foods and limit the protein powders and bars. If I'm very deficient in protein for the day I might have a scoop of whey protein with water before bed.
I was reviewing what Fitness Pro Nicole Wilkins eats while prepping for a competition and I was shocked by the amount of supplements she takes. I'm not so sure taking all those chemically engineered nutrients is wise, but if it works for her that's fine. I don't need to go that route. I can admire the dedication and commitment of fitness models, but I have no plan to become one or enter a competition any time soon.
Quite frankly, I don't think I could take the scrutiny.
I bit the bullet and stepped on the scale today. I knew it would be bad. I gained 6 pounds on top of the 4 pounds I gained over the summer. I slipped back into bad habits, most notably, thinking that I can out exercise a bad diet. I allowed myself too many desserts, too many cocktails and just too much food!
That all stops now! I'm starting the New Year off right with a new commitment to eating better and finding a good balance of exercise, food and rest. Hopefully I'll fit in some JOY in there somewhere and I wish you all the same in 2013!
