The Training Continues...

Great weekend. Still training for my first marathon in March, sheesh the long runs are getting so much longer now.

I had my first of three timed training races this past weekend. Three races are set up for those training for the big 26.2. This weeks race was 12 miles, figured that would be a piece of cake since I've run that distance many times before. I used this race to test out my new running shoes, they don't make the style that I've been running in for past three years so I had to try something new, uggghhh, why do they always change the shoes? Tested out the New Balance, not what I would have selected but I decided to give them a try. Not too bad, gonna take some getting used to, since I switched from a neutral shoe to a light stability shoe. Lady at the running store assured me they would be great.

Completed it a lot slower than I would have liked to but I was testing the new running shoes and I had just been to the chiropractor the day before so I was running a little sore from that, didn't want to push myself too hard and risk injury so I just took it nice and easy. Overall, I'd call it success, I did finish, lol.

I was hoping to meet some new friends to run with but I ended up running by myself the whole way. I got a late start to the race as I was still in line for that last minute potty stop when the gun went off, so I was way behind. I did manage to pass a few people along the way and I wasn't last, yeah.

The race was run on the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail, I'd been wanting to run this route for a while and just never made it out there. Gorgeous scenery and only one thing concerned me.....a sign that said BEWARE... bear sightings in this area, so you can bet my eyes were wide open and scanning around on the lookout, lol. Aren't bears supposed to be in hibernation this time of year?

Next race is on January 26th, 15 miles.

    Getting psyched for the big one? You are awesome, and have come so far. I so agree with you about taking it slow and not getting injured. That has become my number 1 strategy. I don't care about speed for a marathon, just run to finish and you will do well. Like Hal Higdon says "running a marathon is about endurance not speed". emoticon

Too funny about the bear sign. I suppose it depends where you live if they are hibernating. If there is still food out (humans running a race.....hahaha) why hibernate.

    I hate when they discontinue shoes I like. The same thing happened to me with the Ghost 3's :( I hope the new ones work out for you! I can't believe your marathon is only 2 months away! Woohoo!

    LOL - I hate it when you start liking something and it works great for you and then they take it away. Isn't that just the luck. Well I hope the New Balance work out for you. Let me know. I am looking to get some new running shoes because the ones I have hurt my feet bad.
Anyway - so proud of you. You are a true blue runner lady.
I am excited for you to finish the big one.
