A Little Ball of Perseverance

Monday, January 07, 2013

I taught myself to crochet 2 years ago. And I have got myself a bit of a yarn habit. I have lots of yarn and I'm not buying anymore till I use some of it up - a yarn diet if you will.

Now back in July I was bought a ball winder - ooo the excitement. I hadn't got skeins of yarn that needed winding but that was ok.

Then I saw 5 skeins of beautiful purple cotton on ebay and I HAD to have them. They were expensive (for me) and I eagerly anticipated their arrival. I was so excited when they arrived. I had no idea what they would become (and being honest I still don't!).

So they arrived in August and I decided to try out my ball winder having looked for instruction on the internet.

Well, I learned 2 valuable lessons.
1. I need a second pair of hands when using said ball winder
2. I should read instructions properly

My beautiful skein of purple cotton became nothing short of the messiest plate of purple spaghetti you have seen. I was disheartened and upset because I thought I had ruined it.

And the mess sat on my desk, or under my desk or on my printer for months. . People said "don't worry about it just wind another skein and forget this one".

But I couldn't. Every so often I would untangle a bit.

And then last month when I had nothing else to do I started untangling it properly and each day I did a bit more.

Last night I finally finished it. My perseverance paid off. Do you want to see?

(the picture isn't very good - apologies)

Its a beautiful ball of purple cotton.

Now why you might asking are you telling me this? what relevance does it have to losing weight?

well that little ball of yarn is sitting on my desk reminding me that if I keep going I will get what I want. I will achieve my goal even if I have a few setbacks. And I can do anything if I put my mind to it.

I rarely finish anything. And that is part of my plan this year. Stick to the plan, finish what I start.

I am waiting for my joggers to dry (again!) and then I am out walking. Due to time constraints (we need to go shopping this morning) I am off on a half hour jaunt rather than an hour.

But I am going to persevere. I will be healthy and I am going to fit in that airline seat. And I am going to say no to the cake pushers at work!!

Have a great day!!

Great metaphor for struggle, then untangling the doubt and reaching a goal! And that yarn is the most gorgeous eggplant purple ever! Good luck!
