One of Those Days at Work

Sunday, January 06, 2013

So...the first mass I only had one child to babysit. He's a great kid, really, but very high energy, and he always wants to play with someone. Someone today was I. And, being all boy, his idea of play is usually pretend guns and swords, so I spent a rather...interesting...hour or so crashing TinkerToy sticks with him, or pointing brightly coloured foam bricks at him and yelling "Pow pow pow!" I did draw the line when he poked me in the stomach with the 'sword.'

I do not complain, however - at the second mass, I had six kids. I did have help at that point, however - my three kids had arrived to help man the ship. There was a little girl recovering from pinkeye - she is never any trouble, but her parents were concerned she might still be contagious. Then there was the ten-month old who is really very sweet, but who was not happy until I pulled out his bottle. He snatched at it so fast he almost knocked me over. Once fed, he was almost a little angel. Almost because he wanted to get into absolutely everything. And everything he grabbed had to go straight into his mouth and get chewed on. This meant a great deal of toy-washing after church was over.

The rest of the kids were no real trouble, except for the messes they made and the constantly wanting to do and play with and attempt something else.

I am glad it's over for the week, and I will be interested to see what I get next week! :-)

Wow, so you work at a day care all week and then man the nursery at church on Sunday as well? I love kids (especially babies) and all but everyone needs a break sometime. Hope you are getting a chance for some you time and not overdoing it. Glad to hear you had help with the group of 6, especially with one sporting pink eye (can you refuse care for an obviously contagious child?) and a teething 10 month old. On the bright side, kids are fun and never a dull moment, so it makes the time go by fast. Plus think of all the calories you burned! emoticon
