I ran my first marathon in October, 2011 on my 51st birthday, then finished the Marine Corps marathon this past October. My hometown Pittsburgh marathon (seen above) on May 5th will be my third.
And my third try at running it. A stress fracture ended my quest in 2011 and IT band issues from my first marathon caused me to drop down to the half last year.
Mile 22 is a block from my house. In 2009, I was inactive and pudgy. I walked down the block and watched the marathon participants run by. Later that day, I cycled down to the finish line. I watched as the final runners gave everything to cross the line before the six hour cut off. It was inspiring! I signed up for Sparkpeople the next day.
I currently weigh just slightly less than when I started on Spark, but I have accomplished so much. I set and met goals that I once could not have imagined.
These will be my loyal foot soldiers for the journey:
2 pair of adidas AdiZero Adios 2s and two pair of adidas Marathon 10s. I completed the Marine Corps marathon in the Marathon 10s.
The plan calls for easy runs on Mondays and Fridays and medium length runs at marathon pace on Thursdays. Tuesdays will be hill work for the first 8 weeks, followed by 8 weeks of speedwork. I'll run my long, slow runs each weekend, including two 20 milers and a 22 miler.
I'll keep everyone posted on my progess.
I'm currently doing a streak of 30 days of 30 minutes of purposeful exercise. So far, so good in 2013. If all goes well, I plan to expand it to 100 days.
On the tracking food front, I give myself a B- but continue to fight the good fight...
