Sundays: Prep Day

Sunday, January 06, 2013

Sundays have always been my "prep day" for the upcoming week. I do laundry, ironing, cut up any fruits/veggies in the fridge, make sure my work bag is set (I always take a bag with me to work that has snacks, magazines, books, Ibuprofen, gum, etc since I am there for at least 12 hours. I like to have extra stuff "just in case"- it's become kind of a joke at work that I bring so much stuff, but you never know! LOL!) Since I work every Monday, I make sure to make an extra meal (or something that will have enough leftovers) on Sunday nights so that my family has a good meal for Monday. It's usually something that reheats easily (taco meat for tacos or burritos, spaghetti, chili, sloppy joes, etc). Today I am going to make them lasagna for tomorrow. It always tastes better reheated anyways! The nice thing too is that it is also gives me a meal to take to work the next day! I lay out my workout clothes and work clothes for the next day before I go to bed. It only takes a minute, but it seems to make my mornings go more smoothly! I also make the boys bring their backpacks out to the kitchen so that I go through them and make sure there aren't any notes/paper that they "forgot" to give me.

We try not to plan too many activities for Sundays. My husband is a pastor, so he is at work all day Saturday and most of Sunday. When he gets home, he is tired! It's nice for him to be able to kick-back and relax for a while. I try to do something relaxing as well once I get all my "prep-stuff" done. I will either sit in the living room and read a book as my husband is watching a sports game, or we will watch a movie together or play a game as a family. It makes Mondays "a little easier" if you go into them with some rest.

Wow! I wish I could be that organized. " It makes Mondays "a little easier" if you go into them with some rest. " Too often we do not take the time to rest... Thanks for sharing.

I love Sundays for these reasons too! I have also recently started batch cooking on Sundays. I roast up a few chicken breasts, make brown rice and quinoa, and turkey meatballs. I use these as my lunches during the week because I have found that is the meal I'm most likely to make poor food choices. Have a great week!
