On the road again...a post that is not interesting to anyone but me (sorry)

Today, I'm heading back to my parents' house for two nights. Mom had surgery last week (it went fine, all is well), and I know it will make her happier to have me come keep her company for a while. So that's good.
If you recall though, my diet and fitness plans went waaaaaaaaaaay off track when I stayed with the 'rents for 5 nights over the holidays. This is only two nights, but I am NOT going to let that happen again.
I've planned and packed all the food for the trip, including some car snacks. I'm also "helping" by cooking dinner for me and Dad on Monday night (Mom's got a special diet for recovery). I have a family-favorite that is actually a healthy recipe I found years ago. I have no idea where. But everyone loves it - it's simple, has an easy clean up, and uses flavors we all like. I'll share in a later blog post.
This is harder. I know I need to lift on Monday, so I'll probably do it in the evening when Dad is home from work so that we don't leave Mom alone. I like going to the gym with Dad, but since the point is to free him up from sitting around the house by being there while he's out, that's out for this trip. And I hear rumors that his chest pain is back, which may mean he is cutting back on gym visits for a little bit. :( I'm going to go for a run during the day if there's time, but if there's not, I'll get on Mom's stationary bike and give it a whirl.
I am still trying to figure out how the strength training will work. I think I'm going to flip-flop some workout stuff from my normal schedule. This means I can plan on fixing & eating dinner, drive to SIL's house to drop something off, then stop by the gym for the short workout (squats) on Monday night. I'll save the long lifting workout for Tuesday evening, when I'm back home.
NO BEER. I'm going to bring a bunch of teas with me to have something flavorful to drink in any hangout time (ie, Sunday evening). On Monday evening, which would be prime-temptation time, I'll be cooking and running my errand and going to the gym.
I'm also not beating myself up if nothing works out as expected. I may or may not be called on to help with getting Mom to a follow-up appointment or in driving one of the grandmas to one of her appointments. I could also end up staying Tuesday night, which would mean the food plan would need modification. Because of all that uncertainty, I am not going in expecting rigid adherence to the plan - just going to make sure every choice I make is the best, which should give me a little wiggle room if I can't make awesome choices later.
So there you go, that's the plan. I think I can do this, this time. :)
