Winter Sunshine

I'm doing a 30-day on-line home tidy with apartment
therapy and yesterday's task was to buy flowers. DONE!
I've already taken about 5 bags of stuff out already.

I'm providing links to what I'm talking about in case
anyone else is interested in having the information.

The new year is well underway and I, like many of us, are feeling good about having another opportunity to make some positive changes. I consider January May and Sept to be my 'new beginnings' ... April ends the school year and Spring and Summer are shining sun upon our faces like there's no tomorrow so how can it not invoke desires for refreshing and replenishing and then September begins the school year and Fall which means a huge changing of the guard in my home (gardening things are put to rest and school files are brought out and dusted off). These three starts divide the year equally for me and I'm always glad to have these check ins and times of reflection where I can add and subtract things to and from my agenda.

My plans are to blog once a week, on Sundays. I post on other blogs (my gardening blog and I've created one for students which requires a fair amount of daily online research to keep updated on current events) and I want to be realistic. I really enjoy Sparks so I'll use it on Sundays as a way to 'look ahead' and make plans for the upcoming week and as a way to 'look back' and hold myself accountable for the week behind me.

In the past, I've blogged everyday and kept in touch with forums and it became overwhelming to keep up with and so I cut back and tried to blog a few times a week but without a schedule and I've tried Fridays and Sundays which worked for while but sometimes at the end of the week, I was too beat to write - sOo - I believe I've hit upon a doable way to have this work and so Sunday Check Ins are my goal for this year.

I was working on and then began a joyous time planning my trip to Paris in the Spring and it went off without a hitch (except when I lost my iPhone in Florence while on a side trip), I returned to a low-key gardening venture and headed off to Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island for a month of writing and then I headed back to teaching (where I'm still fighting to have my former schedule returned to me).

This Year: I've joined Chopra Yoga Center in Toronto. It just opened in mid-December and I took the 2 mile walk there and 2 mile walk back to see if I would be okay with this during the Winter months and it was a wonderful outing. I will hopefully begin on Tuesday this week and I'd like to attend twice a week and walk there and back both times (and there is excellent incentive to do this because parking is prohibitive downtown).

This Week: I return back to school after a holiday riddled with flu. I've been out 3 times since mid-December and each time I go out, it sets me back a little. It started on the last day of school and so I am hoping it has run it's course. The First Semester back was not a good one for me despite my best efforts to be proactive. I bought a juicer in the summer and was using it and in November I bought a blender to make smoothies. I've been actively researching raw food diets - not necessarily to switch over completely but I've found some wonderful, healthy recipes on these sites that I wouldn't have otherwise found had I not. I've just signed up to do a 10 Day Detox on-line at Joyous Health so that I can get the recipes and find out more about healthier living. Last year, at this time, I supported another young Toronto individual at Meals That Heal, both of whom have been on Dr. Oz and are forces to be reckoned with in the health fields here sharing current information. I attended Julie's workshop last year and taste tested many great recipes. I also took a day-long yoga workshop with her and her brother that was very relaxing.

I'm tightening my belt around spending and have made a list of projects around my home that I have been ticking off since June 2012. It all began when I painted my bedroom lime green.

I also just set up my aerogarden to grow some herbs indoors while I wait for the gardening season to begin. In a month or so, I'll plant my first little early tomatoes ... I've already sent in an order for some interesting heirloom seeds. You can see what I've begun on my blog - this is six years later.

    I love that you bought flowers to brighten your apartment. I'll go in spurts of buying flowers when I'm at the grocery store, though I haven't done it lately. I am always glad that I did when I bring them home. Wishing you all the best in 2013, especially that you'll be healthy and have a great start to the new semester.     I too will be checking out the apartment therapy, thank you for all the sites you have listed, I love it when people share their information, it increases the feelings of friendship. Loved reading your blog and I think doing the Sunday check in is great, especially with your work and other activities, we are silly if we think we can do it all and foolish if we try. With me not working and having no schedule I have lots of time but still try to keep a handle on it as I don't want to be glued to the computer, as that's not good either, we have to find our balance and what works for us. Love the picture of the flower it's so bright and cheery and we need that in the winter months. Wishing you a blessed and peaceful Sunday.
