Recalculating

Sunday, January 06, 2013

I have started being very precise with my nutrition tracking again. I was doing extremely well and was eating portion sizes and doing 'clean eating' while I was living on my own. Now I have three roommates who are in charge of groceries and that has gone by the wayside. I know it's just an excuse as I still make my own choices, but it needs to stop.

To help with this, I began tracking every bite again. I have found that I need to eat more fiber and keep my carbs to the lower-mid ranges that I need. I also need to stop eating so much sugar....oooooohhhh, my sweet tooth kicked in. I have determined that I am missing many fruits and veggies as those are so scarce around here that I am craving all the goodness from them. Since have a craving, I'm eating everything I can get my hands on and just am not satiated.

I need to add more fruits and veggies back into my diet again. I really do miss them, I've never realized how people can not have them in their house but my roommates do not buy them. I really was lucky growing up with fresh ones all the time that it's just natural for me to buy them. Lack on income is why I'm not buying them as I am dependent on the others to buy the food..

****Just an add on - one of my roommates is my boyfriend. He is transforming his diet slowly as well, it's still like veggies are the worst thing ever. He is okay with buying things for me as that is how it is going to be for a long time. :) We are talking about marriage, but nothing is set in stone yet. :) We have had several discussions and if they won't eat it, they won't buy it. It is tough but it's changing slowly.

I hope that they will start to be willing to get the groceries you need...actually that they need as well! Everyone needs fruits and veggies! Hang in there and keep being a good example for them, maybe they will come around.

It is hard to avoid junk foods when they are constantly in front of me too! My husband buys junk when he goes to the store and orders fried appetizers when we go out to eat - ugh! Maybe they could buy you 2 bananas, 2 oranges, etc so nothing is wasted?

I will be excited to hear about your engagement! You have so many positive changes going on.

Sorry, that's the best I can do to help!! Though it sounds like you're on the right track, recognizing the problem and talking through it.

Good luck!

Can you ask your roommates to buy fresh produce for you, if you gave them a list? If money is an issue, maybe you can barter with them by doing their laundry or washing the dishes?

I'm so sorry! :( I understand by depending on someone else to do the grocery shopping for you. Would they be open to any suggestions? I would just try and be open and frank with them about how it is affecting you. I'm hopeful they wouldn't take it too negatively.

Hope you all the best! Most important thing is to still keep track! emoticon emoticon

Woe the many pitfalls in our journey. Realizing the problem is 90% of the solution. Good choices!
