Ouch

Saturday, January 05, 2013

Tonight, after my stick-thin bf asked his fifth question about chilli speeding up your metabolism, I had to ask "Why does it matter? You don't need to speed up your metabolism."
Without missing a beat he answered "No, but you do."

That really hurt.

I hope you were able to let him know how that made you feel, and that he didn't say it to hurt you, but just didn't word it very nicely. Don't let it slow down your efforts. You are beautiful and you are worth it!!! emoticon

Oups! Yeah that was a bit too much...
Sometimes we forget that we must behave to our closer people like we would to a stranger about these things... It's like we forget our manners... I bet he wouldn't say that to his boss... The best you can do is talk with him about it, don't let it make you sad or uncomfortable. Maybe he wanted to say something else and it didn't come out as he would like.

No matter what, if there is a recipe to speed up our metabolism I guess he would want it, too emoticon

You are beautiful! Remember that, but also be open with each other. That's the best. Tell him that it hurt you and tell him why and talk, talk about it. You'll find out wall the more what he's made of! emoticon

    Sweetie,

Why do you refer to this "person" (I use quotes because I would like to replace that word with something more descriptive, but less polite!!!!!) as your bf???

I can see someone wanting you to reach your goals, and maybe he "meant well" but REALLY this was just plain rude and hurtful to you.

Maybe time to eliminate some toxic relationships in 2013....

Wow! My now husband made a similarly insensitive remark a couple of years ago, and it really took a while for me to get over it. (And a lot of apologizing and discussing about how hurtful it was on his part.) I'm with the others, for you to succeed, try to surround yourself with supporting, loving people. I hope that this was a one time slip that was not meant to be malicious. If not, you deserve so much better and should start thinking about whether this bf is really keeping your best interest at heart. Hugs either way - it hurts! You are beautiful and your body will adjust as it does; in the meantime, he should appreciate you giving him the opportunity to be near it! :)

I'm hoping he was just being a man and not thinking before speaking, instead of intentionally being hurtful. I winced and it wasn't even directed at me, so I can only imagine how you feel. Keep your chin up. You're smart, pretty and working towards your goals. Don't let one comment get you down (for too long anyway). Hugs!

I hope he is one of those people who means to say something helpful and it comes out sounding horrible instead of just being plain old horrible and mean.
