Distance tracking 2012

I always forget about the reports you can run on SparkPeople! They're super helpful when you want to take a close look at what you're doing (or not doing). I thought I'd take a look at how many miles I covered in 2012, so I ran a report to see my distance over the year.
Here are the miles I covered last year:
Lots of ups and downs, which I expected given how inconsistent I was with running this year. Looking at the low months like April and July/August, I can recall some stressful things going on in my life at those times. And November, when my numbers peaked, that was a good months for me in general. I was walking a mile each morning as a daily challenge and I was getting back to consistent training with Couch to 10K. And things in my personal life were OK, too. It's all connected, whether I want to admit that or not.
My goal last year was 9 miles/week for a total of 468 miles. I was planning to run a 10K, so I thought I'd hit or surpass that weekly goal without a problem. Not so much! It shows me that I really need to be consistent to reach my goals, no matter how small they may seem on paper.
But I'm not going to dwell on what I didn't do. Because I did cover 298.93 miles in 2012, and that gives me a goal to beat in 2013. Always improve, right?
Tomorrow morning, I'm running a 5K with a few other Sparkpeeps. It's called the Resolution Run, and I did it last year, too. But while last year I almost didn't even go because I was disappointed in myself for not being "ready", this year I'm taking a different approach. I'm going to go out in the early-morning cold and dark and I'm going to have the best run I can with the endurance and speed I've built up to this point. Good or bad, anything can happen out there, but I won't know unless I show up and do it. That's the tone I want to set for myself this year. My body can do great things and my mind just has to catch up with that fact.
