the swim,,,,

Saturday, January 05, 2013

Well I was nervous about it. I was pretty sure I wouldn't drown, yet thought I might get to meet the cute life guard. emoticon In the end I didn't drown, did have a few cramps, had to get out on my own, and never got to meet the lifeguard.

The goal was to swim 50 yards (from one end of the pool to the other and back) 113 times!!! You had 2 hours to do this in. You could stop and rest after the 50's. Well I was in the slow lane and I knew that is where I belonged. I did my best and I think in the end I did about half the distance everyone else did.

When I did the math on it all.... I still swam ALOT! I got in about 2 miles! That is the farthest I have ever swam at one time, and I haven't been 'practicing' to swim that distance. I swam about 2 miles. The swim for an Ironman is almost 2.5.

There is one guy in the pool that would start his swims almost half way down the pool.. It would irritated me some. Then I had to just get over it and let him do that and realized that he is just 'cheating himself'.

After all of that I came home and had a nice long nap! Two hours of swimming non stop was along time! I can't wait to try and do that again at some point.

That's fabulous! Hooray for not drowning, and for swimming so far!

Now, I have to comment - you said you had to let it go that the guy was starting half way down the pool. That's SO me all over. I simply ~know~ better than whoever is doing whatever, and it drives me nuts that they're not doing it MY way.
It's funny and horrible at once! I'm trying SO hard to get over that feeling and remind myself that it's none of my business how someone drives (unless they wreck into me) or runs facing the wrong way or rides their bike on the sidewalk or any number of other things. Whew!

Good for you for letting him do his own thing, even if you were doing it better!
