Fitbit

Saturday, January 05, 2013

So far, I'm really loving my Fitbit. It took about 5 minutes to set up and I was off and running (well walking). For those not familiar with it, it's small - about the size of a USB stick. It comes with a small case with a clip and a wrist band to wear while sleeping. I'm terrified I will lose it, but the clip seems sturdy. I hook it to my bra while working out and on the inside of my pocket for the rest of the day. The wrist band is for sleeping. It's a little on the wide side, but not overly cumbersome.

Two things that surprised me. The number of steps I take in a day and how many times I wake up in the night. I personally think the awake numbers are a BIT off. Here's why - I have a few wake ups throughout the night, which I can see. The problem is unless you turn the Fitbit off the FIRST moment you start to awaken, it records every movement as an awakening. Those morning stretches, the snooze slams - all count as wake ups. I need to remember to stop my sleep timer as soon as my eyes flutter open.

So to sum it up, so far, so good!

Good blog. I have been dreaming about getting a FitBit so all of the little tidbits of information are helpful. I have a reward jar for my daily exercise this year and I am hoping I can accumulate enough in it to buy one. I wondered how you wore it to bed. emoticon emoticon

I'm happy to be friends with you on Fitbit! I got 11,000 steps today, so I am psyched and hope I stay motivated to keep moving a lot each day! I decided on the Zip since I do my tracking on SP and didn't want to wear it to track sleep. I am just concerned about losing it. So far it seems nice and secure on the waistband of my pants, turned in.

haha...these endorsements pushed me over the buying edge. I bought one just now for both my daughter and I(pink for me, green for her). hope it motivates me...I'm really back and forth. gained over 20 last winter, lost 40 walking with her this summer and have already gained about 15 of that back. just joined a biggest loser contest at work and am gonna win....

I've been thinking about getting the Zip for my daughter and I. she has been my walking partner but is now moving from IL to ND...we thought this could be a way for us to still walk together sorta. Glad to hear how well you like it

I would love to get one but don't know if they are safe for people with pacemakers. I have a regular pedometer that stays in my pants pocket that is okay. glad you got yours and are loving it.

I got one for Christmas and love it. I too was worried about losing it so I bought a lanyard ( kinda like a camera strap with a loop on one end and a clip on the other). I tied the loop around the fitbit and after I clip it onto the center of my bra, I use the lanyard clip to attach to my bra strap. I bought it on ebay for about 2.50. I have also seen it on amazon for about .42 but with the shipping it is almost 2.50.

I wanted one for Christmas, but that didn't happen so I'm hoping to save enough to get one in the next few months. I had a regular old pedometer but broke the clip off, so now it's useless. I wanted the new little one that doesn't do anything with sleep, but now I might want the ONE or whatever it's called. LOL! Thanks for letting us know how you like it!!!

I found the wrist band bothers me so I just don't record sleep. I do think it motivates me when I see the daily steps number. My goal for today is 10,000 but I'll never meet it if I don't get busy!

I love mine too. I have the Zip which doesn't record sleep, but that's ok with me. It took some getting used to that it recorded every step I take as exercise minutes. It threw off my workout points on SP but now I just concentrate on getting 10,000 steps a day. I see people recording 15,000 a day and I can't imagine how they do it unless they have a job that keeps them on their feet all day.

I have thought about getting one but from what I've read it's not that accurate in tracking calories burned for doing things like ST or HIIT. It seems like the fitibit is good for cardio and tracking all day activity and the sleep thing seems pretty cool too. For me, I think that an HRM is what I want at the moment. Maybe sometime in the future I'll get a fitibit but for now I think I'll just go with a HRM.

Glad you are enjoying your fitbit though! emoticon emoticon

I'm glad you like your Fitbit. I love mine and use it's "silent" alarm, too. Are you sure you don't want to keep wearing it on your bra instead of your pocket. When I was reading about the Fitbit in deciding if I wanted to buy one it seemed like a lot of people that wore it on their pockets lost it! Just something to ponder.
Glad to be friends on Fitbit as well as here. I sent you a Cheer!
Have fun earning your badges!
