Yesterday a couple of my coworkers called and asked if I wanted to go to lunch with them at a nearby Mexican restaurant. Since we do not have children in class on Fridays, we get a bit of time to have lunch (Monday-Thursday we eat with our students, which is definitely NOT a lunch break!). Anyway, when they called, they asked me if I wanted them to come pick me up. The restaurant is just on the next block, so I said no thanks, I would walk and meet them there. A few seconds later, they called again and said that they wanted to follow my good example and walk too! All year, they have been interested in my pedometer and are always asking me how many steps I have. They also said that they have been trying to incorporate more walking into their days by doing things like walking laps around the gym while their students are playing. When we got to the restaurant, I ordered water and one friend, who always orders soda, ordered water too. It made me feel so good to know that I had set a good example for them and that they are now thinking more about developing healthy habits!
