Getting Organized

I've always been a very organized, goal directed person. But one of the things that goes by the wayside is organizing my health when things get busy and I drop all my healthy habits when I get stressed. One key I've noticed is that I was doing great up until November when I started really getting overwhelmed with school work and the holidays and family stress. I sat down this week and planned out three weeks of rotating meals I enjoy and love and are healthy and wrote out the grocery list for each week. What an awesome thing to know that I have a plan to get me through this first month.

It feels pretty awesome to have healthy snacks around the house. During the month of December I felt I could only find sugary or salty things around the house which made me always craving more to eat. I lost three pounds this week, but I'm sure its mostly due to the fact that I wasn't retaining as much water weight from a significant decrease in the sodium running around in my body. It has been hard cutting back portions, but its good to know that I'm getting back into control of my eating habits. I do remember that it gets easy as the "stomach shrinks." (Is this really a true phenomenon?)

Anywho, I'm still waiting for my inexpensive treadmill to arrive. I hope it comes soon so I can start walking in the house. Still a touch to cold outside for me to endure 60 minutes outside.

... not sure, really, but anecdotally I've found that even if the stomach doesn't 'shrink,' my appetite does and my desire to eat such a large *volume* of food. So there's a change somewhere.

Also: yay to organization and portion-control. I'm still in the beginning-of-the-year-reorganizing phase ... sort of like Spring Cleaning, but in January. Good luck with the treadmill.

    Organized is the key to it all I think. If we plan for busy days we avoid pitfalls like sugery snacks. Keeping fruit in a small cooler while out shopping helps avoid that candy bar at the checkout. Why do they keep them there anyway?
