One of my resolutions this year was to integrate strength training into my routine. I'm good with the cardio, but terrible with strength. Although I've not introduced any structured training yet, the picture here shows that I am tackling the issue.
A few months ago I submitted a proposal for a unique exhibition in which the artists create something from two trees that had been lost in a recent performing arts building expansion project here. I submitted a proposal that seemed like a good idea at the time.
What was I thinking?
The last time I carved wood was in my 30s...30 years ago. Eek. And my design has a big broad base out of which a very slender figure rises. Which means the piece of wood they gave me reflected the BIGGEST dimensions.
Which means a BOATLOAD of wood to be carved away. And apparently I forgot to figure in the fact that I can only work in short bursts - after five surgeries on my hands and wrists not only do I have limited endurance, but have to be very careful to not injure anything. So, I strap on my wrist braces and do the best I can.
Again...what was I thinking.
At any rate, I'm finding work on the sculpture to be a dandy upper body workout, that's a plus, right?
Finished piece due date...February 1st.
The purpose of this blog? I guess to show that while I'm not doing any specific strength exercises - I am working out the old upper body. And five days into it, everything seems to be going VERY slowly, but at least moving forward.
So...2013...so far so good.
