One 2013 Goal - SCRATCHED!

Saturday, January 05, 2013

One goal I had was to resume giving blood regularly. I made an appointment and went in yesterday and found out I'm BANNED!!! For a year!! All because we went to the Great Wall of China for about 4 hours last September. I couldn't believe it -- the wall is 1,500 miles long, so it's not like visiting a small town or anything.

The nurse said there were a lot more outbreaks of malaria worldwide last year, and even visiting Cancun, Mexico made you ineligible.

So harumph.

Wow! I gave blood a couple of weeks ago. I admit I just skimmed through the disqualifying information regarding travel, medications, and health issues because I haven't gone anywhere or seen a doctor in a long time.

I guess you could donate next October since that would be more than 12 months after your China trip, right? If you just give once a year that's more than most people can do.

For a year! My daughter was so excited when she turned 16 to give blood for the first time and was banned for six months as she had just had the vaccine for cervical cancer

I'm banned for some of my medications and so is my husband because of one of the things wrong with him. At least maybe in a year you can donate again.

Hey stuff happens... Love that you wanted to give, but loved the responses that perhaps you could give something else. Perhaps this is an opportunity ... You do have so much to offer.

Now you have your first goal 4 2014! emoticon to you for caring about others enough to make this s goal. If more people were this caring we would always have an adequate supply of safe blood for those who need it

You just get to kick this goal down the road to next year. Don't fret or take it personally. It's not a failure. Now you have a few hours this year to do something else.

I do understand the yuk feeling of being deferred for something over which you have no control. I am happy, though, to think they were that diligent when the blood was being transfused into one of my fragile parents! Thank you for your goal of giving!

There are a lot of reasons they won't let you give blood. Remember when being in England banned you because of Mad Cow Disease? They do have to be careful and in the most financially responsible manner. It's not a personal stab at you.

Well great that you had the desire to give: maybe you can persuade a friend to "give for you!!"

I can't give blood because I take a pill containing sulfur regularly. Apparently, many people are allergic, so my blood could kill. Hmm.
