Streamlining My Grocery Shopping

Saturday, January 05, 2013

I did my grocery shopping yesterday and used 22 coupons and 2 electronic coupons (coupons you save online that are deducted from your bill when you buy the products you saved) for a total of 24 coupons at one store.

I made sure that everything I purchased was something we would use and not end up throwing away. I got a lot of coffee as it was buy 1 get 1 free and I had $1.50 on 1 bag coupons. I also stocked up on Kleenex that was also buy 1 get 1 free and I also had coupons as well as a store coupon where you got the store brand free.

I looked up 4 different recipes this week that I reviewed to see if they would help me use up items I already had and would hopefully appeal to my family. I only had to buy 1 item yesterday (green pepper) to make two of them so will try to work on doing that soon.

I stopped by the discount bread store and bought 3 whole wheat bread products (including my favorite whole wheat bagel thins) and also stopped by Wal-Mart since I wanted to see if they had their Christmas items marked down more. They did (75% off) so I bought a few things that I knew I would use for sure including some tablecloths as well as a Starbucks coffee gift set. Yes, I got more coffee but we (my husband and I) drink a lot of it and I'd rather make it at home vs. buying it at Starbucks.

Today my daughter and I will be shoes shopping since we didn't find any sneakers the last time we went shoe shopping. She and I both have very difficult feet to fit so it's not an easy process by no means.

Pickie98 - I know, aren't coupons wonderful? I've been using them since the early 80's, so a very long time. Of course I'm much better at using them now than I was when I first started out. We didn't have e-coupons back then or the internet, so it's much easier to save now than it was then.

There isn't a Famous Footwear that I am aware of in my town, but I'm sure in the larger city near me there are. I stayed local to save time since I knew we'd be in the store for hours trying on shoes, and we were unfortunately. emoticon

WishICouldFly - Thanks, saving money at the grocery store and other stores means that I am able to stay at home and homeschool my children. I've been home since they were conceived and my husband wasn't sure we'd be able to make it on one income, but we've done it so far.

I'm always looking for improved ways to save more and work hard at it.

I LOVE coupons!! I never leave the grocery without at least $80-$100 in savings. As far as your shoes, if you live near a Famous Footwear, they have deep discounts too.. major brands...have fun shopping!
