Ending the week with a minor setback and an important lesson...

Oh what a way to end the week.

On Thursday I had the blondest of all blonde moments and accidentally overdosed on my metformin, it was minor, but coupled with the effects of a changed diet, a hot summers day and some vigorous exercise, it led me to the hospital later in the evening.

In the last few months my dosage was increased from 2,000mg a day to 3,000mg. In doing that, my actual prescription also changed so I was no longer taking 500mg tablets (ie. 2 tablets to a dose) and am now on the 1,000mg tablets. A slight lapse in the afternoon saw me take two of the 1,000mg tablets with my lunch. The effects weren't felt as I spent the afternoon seated firmly at my desk.

The issue came later as hubby and I went for our afternoon bike ride, and I got about 4kms in before my bike handles came a bit loose, so I stopped and prepared to head back home as it made changing gears or braking impossible. The sudden exertion saw my blood sugar levels dropped, probably coupled with the heat (roughly 31 degrees at 5.30pm) and I was not well. Faint, shaky, dizzy, nauseous, etc close the point of passing out. Hubby raced home to get the car to come get me and brought some lemonade to assist.

I seemed fine for a while, even managing to have these delicious tacos for dinner:

Later in the evening however a pressing migraine and nauseousness took over and had us concerned, so we went to the hospital to have me checked out, everything was fine but they kept me for a few hours to observe and make sure I ate/drank more - lemonade and sandwich. We got home around 1am and after some painkillers to deal with the migraine I had one of the best nights sleep in a long time.

Friday was a bit of a blur, I had the day off work, spent most of the day in bed sleeping it all off. So we'll consider that my 'rest' day.

I did manage to make these amazing pot-pies for my husband and I, made a bolognese mince meat filling topped with some puff pastry (did a little creative-decorating lol) and added mushy peas to the top. Delicious.

Today has been better, slept through breakfast unfortunately but had a banana, grabbed my thai beef salad for lunch and had some cold cuts with salad for dinner. It's been about 42 degrees here today, so the best exercise I could muster was cleaning the house. Tomorrow I plan on wearing my heart rate monitor to see what all the running up and down the stairs burns. Should be interesting.

So it's been an eventful few days.

One thing I'm quite proud of, is come Monday, we'll have gone a whole week without alcohol. Quite an accomplishment considering hubby and I partake in quite a few social engagements which seem to revolve around food and drink. Honestly though, in this weather, all I desire is to drink buckets of water!

Tomorrow will be much the same I think; cold cuts, salad, cleaning, drinking lots of water.

I hope everyone else is having a good weekend :)
