Yard Work

While we were away, ALL of the trees in our yard lost their leaves. Lots and lots of leaves. When I arrived home, it looked like an abandoned house or something. How embarrassing.

So today I spent an hour and a quarter raking the leaves out of the street, the neighbor's yard and our front yard.

I raked up three waist-deep piles of leaves - enough to make myself a replica of a VW beetle or something. Here in town we can't burn them, so tomorrow's job will be to wheelbarrow them around back to the compost heap (which will quadruple in size).

Sure hope there won't be much wind tonight!

The best part is that according to SP, an hour and a quarter spent raking leaves burns 480 calories! Sweeping and raking for the exercise WIN! (No wonder our nation is getting fatter now that those horrible leaf blowers are all the rage.)

    Oooo.... I LOVE work-outs like that, where you can see instant results! My fave is to push-mow the yard despite owning a riding mower. And hubby loves that he can enter "chopping wood" after we cut a big load. Your compost pile is gonna love you! Raking leaves is a lesson in futility at my house, but we don't live in a neighborhood so it doesn't matter. I'm in the process of turning our yard into a garden of raised beds and paths so we will eventually only have a small space to mow. Hubby wants to keep one patch of grass for playing games like volleyball or cornhole.

    What a FANTASTIC way to get a workout in!! Raking leaves, gardening, working in your yard...those are some of my FAVORITE things to do. I can't wait till I actually have a yard of my own though =) and WOW, what stamina you have, that was one hell of a workout!
