God is trying to teach me a lesson...thru Job

Friday, January 04, 2013

The book of Job is my least favorite in the Bible and it's the one I'm currently reading. Every time I read it, I find myself getting more irritated with the guy. What happened to him was tragic, I get that. But it just feels like he goes on and on with his whining. And the way he treats his friends is pathetic. They traveled to visit him during his grief. They sat there and mourned with him, without saying a word, for 7 days. Yes maybe their theology was a little off but not everyone is biblical scholars and sometimes there are just no answers (in this lifetime) to why things happen. Job insults these people when all they're trying to do is help. I think there motives are right and their hearts are in the right place.
So my intense irritation with Job has to mean something but not sure what yet. God often will bring things into my life as themes to guide me. He also is directing me to 1 Peter a lot recently. Wondering if it's related emoticon

I love 1 Peter! It was the book we had to read for HeartQuest 5 times over the month. I have went back and did the HeartQuest prep again about a year or so ago, and it was even different the second time through. God showed me different things, even though it was the same devotionals and readings!

I suspect his going on and on is very similar to what some people do nowadays. They seem to think they are entitled to an easy life. Well, life is sometimes easy, but frequently it is hard. His whining is a mirror of all whiners. The carrying on with his friends is to show how friends who seem to be supportive, may also be blaming the person at the same time. We hopefully learn more about God through this morose book.
