Scared Straight?

Friday, January 04, 2013

omg.. I think I now know what it means to be "scared straight". I have struggled with weight loss for years.. and backslid again for months now, gaining yet more weight... but after reading people's posts on what made them decide to lose weight.. and reading about hip replacements, knee replacements, etc.. it REALLY made me realize how SERIOUS this is.. I've thought about heart disease, diabetes.. that stuff is horrible of course, but it's invisible in some ways.. mechanical issues, like knees, hips, feet (already have issues there)... and to think that my WEIGHT would cause me to have to have multiple surgeries some day.. Lord HELP ME TO LIVE HEALTHIER!

It's so easy to ignore that little dial on the scale inching up and up and to think I'm feeling fine...that little twinge is nothing....I'll get started tomorrow or, next week, or next month when the weather gets better.
But today is the day. Today is your life.
I just had emergency back surgery. Talk about being scared straight. One of the things the surgeon said that convinced me to do it was- that pro athletes get things like this taken care of all the time- and I said- yeah they're in better shape- and my Doctor said- no- they are thinking- they need to get back to work. Their time is valuable- their time is money.
And it hit me. I'm no pro athlete. But my time is valuable. My life is valuable. I need to get "in the game". And I need to get back to work too!
Welcome to the game! emoticon emoticon
