Hello Sparkies!

I hope you're all finding 2013 to be a great year, so far!

I was thinking about what motivates us to do this thing of getting fit, especially now that we're in the season of New Year's resolutions. I know, as shallow as this may seem, clothes have always been my best motivator. Even with amazing benefits like feeling better, living longer and being able to do so many things that a healthy weight affords us, sometimes, for me, fashion trumps them all. --Not that I'm willing to race to the finish line by using unhealthy methods. That certainly wouldn't be worth doing.

So, here's my brand sparkling new poll question, the first one for 2013:

Does the idea of being able to wear a specific type of clothing motivate you in your weight loss/fitness goals?

A. No

If yes, (choose as many as you like):

B. Jeans

C. Pants (not jeans, specifically)

D. A dress/skirt/kilt

E. Suits

F. Something else (Tell us, in the comments section)

Wishing you a Fashionable New Year!
: )

I would say D, but my real motivation is just being able to feel better in general. I haven't worn dresses or skirts in a while and I've just started buying some and one of my Sparkstreaks is to wear one at least once a week to work. Generally the dress code is slacks but that gets old and I HATE buying pants because I have to have them hemmed everytime!

    A. No. More motivated for health reasons and to be able to do things with my son.

    I love your poll questions!

My answer would be A, I like clothing/fashion, but am not motivated by it (or size/label).

Of course now that I can wear clothes better I really enjoy shopping! But it was not a motivation for me in the beginning.

    A. I always liked clothes, even when I was heavy. I enjoy shopping a lot more now, but I don't think being able to fit into a smaller jeans size is really what motivates me. I did get a real thrill the first time I was able to shop in the "ladies" department rather than the "women's", but it wasn't something I was anticipating, if that makes any sense.

That was a good poll question because it made me think.

No, not really. I've always preferred to dress for function and comfort over style. What DOES motivate me is being able to buy clothes in much smaller sizes!!

    A. Not really, I just like that the clothes I own are getting looser : )

I know it wasn't an option but "clothes in general" would be my answer. But even "clothes in general" isn't my top motivator. Travel is. I want to fit into an airplane seat better. I want to be fit enough to hoof it through those huge airports without getting winded. Those are way bigger motivators for me than clothes. emoticon

Having energy to do what I want is my motivator.

I want to look good in all clothes. I want to shop in regular department. No specific clothes motivate me. I am losing weight to look and feel better in general.

F for me. I spend most of my time in workout clothes and I want to be able to rock leotards like the other girls, but more than anything I want to be one of those girls who works out in shorts and a sports bra.

My gap long and lean jeans, size 12 made me feel incredibly sexy. I'd love to be able to wear them again.

Definitely dressy stuff. Not suits, but separates. In 2002 I bought several pieces of St John's knits, and hardly wore them before I'd gained it all back and then some. Guess what's till in my closet? And I can FINALLY hear them calling my name!! I won't make it this winter, but I sure am planning on it for next!

Clothes really aren't my motivator (but then I'm 55 years old). Just being healthy enough to go hiking, biking, kayaking, backpacking . . . That's my motivator!!

Have a great New Year!

C,D, summer clothes and BOOTS! My calves are too large for boots...I keep hoping to slim down enough to wear cute boots and skirts next year!

It's not really the item of clothing I am motivated about- it's about feeling like I have choices and flexibility again!

Yes! Clothes in general motivate me. Specifically, the clothes in my closet. I would love to walk into my closet and choose anything and know that it will fit.

Okay to answer briefly and choose if I must, I will say looking nice in a summery dress motivates me.

Nothing in general. My motivator, when it comes to clothing, is to just be able to go into a 'normal-size' clothing store and pick anything off their racks.

I would love to be able to wear a sundress!

Just clothes in general motivate me. I would love to be able to wear stylish clothes. The clothes for overweight people are not cute and most of them aren't flattering either!

Bathing suits are also an excellent motivator! :)

Bathing suit, yes, but for everyday clothing, looking slim in pants is my favorite.

My main motivator is keeping up with everybody else, without getting out of breath. But certainly, being able to wear a skirt without my stomach poking out is also a motivator.

Yes, I will admit, I am disgustingly vain.
Getting rid of the muffin top in jeans.
Looking decent in a swimsuit.

@AMCLELLAN Actually, I did have "Clothes in general" as one of the answers. But, I deleted it because in the feedback I received re: other poll questions I've written and posted, some people didn't like that I listed "too many" options. I never thought there was such a thing, but I aim to give the people what they want.

For me it is all clothes. I have been liking how I look in jeans more and more. I defiantly want to look better in a bathing suit. I want to wear cute running shorts, and yoga pants without looking like I have a front butt. I would like to look cuter in all sorts of shirts.

Is clothes in general an except able answer?

Two votes for the swimsuit already, out of three votes, so far! That one hadn't even occurred to me!

As I get older, this becomes less of a motivator for me but no question I'm really looking forward to being able to wear a dress again. I need to shrink down mostly my lower half so that I'm the same size top and bottom.

Nearer to summer, a bathing suit might motivate me more!
