Oh Ethiopians, why do you hate me???

Thursday, January 03, 2013

I can be good. I can make healthy choices, and do great things for my body and mind. I have willpower. I enjoy the pride I feel when I end a day on target. I can do this. I DO do this. Almost every day...

Oh Ethiopians!!!! You, with your no forks and beautiful, fluffy injera. You, with your buttery potatoe-y goodness and delicious lentils. You of the honey wine and Shiro Wat. I can never leave your establishments feeling well. There is always pain. ALWAYS!!!!!

Yeah, we went out with friends tonight to our favorite Ethiopian place. Big mistake. I probably can't get on the scale for a week now.

I did my best to track it all, so that is a positive.

Happy new year!!! emoticon

I know this is super random, coming 2 years after you posted, but I am in the same dilemma you were when you posted this! (I just searched on Spark People to see if anyone else knew the nutritional facts on Ethiopian before I splurge tonight, and your blog entry came up!) I've been doing amazing with eating these past few months, but today I am planning to go nuts on Ethiopian. I know it will be more calories than I care to admit, and I just need to be okay with it. I don't think I'm willing to deprive myself of it for life.

Wish me luck tonight- I'll try to eat in moderation but know I will have trouble holding back...

Time to run like a Kenyan to work it all off!

Sundays at Moosewood has some great Ethiopian recipes. In case you want to bring the experience home.

mmmm.....ethiopian food. Super yummy... too bad the scale will love it too.... but so what? You can make it up over the next few days with a few less calories and a few more exercise minutes and things will even out.

What's life without a little Ethiopian food now and again? And who in their right mind would say no to honey wine? Tell the scale to shove off. For today, anyway.

I was curious what this blog would be about. My image of Ethiopia is of all the people starving. It's what we see on tv, right? Never knew they had good yummy food. Guess they just don't have enough of it to feed everyone. Also didn't know that potatoes were common in that part of the world. Thought they were a northern thing.

    Mmmmmmm, I love Ethiopian food!!!

I try to not eat a whole injira by myself. And I avoid the potatoes (I can't really justify starch on starch, you know?) - plus I eat the vegs first, then some lentils, then some meat. And I force myself to stop before I finish the injira. BEcause yeah, otherwise I'm too stuffed. Because the food is sooooo good!!!!
