See your Goal: That sounds easy but sometimes we focus on the wrong things we look at the end result rather than a smaller goal. Exercise for at least 10 minutes consistently, drink 8 glasses of water, eat an extra portion of fruit and vegetables. Build up the goal rather than focus on the trimmer you that will be the long term goal and get discouraged. That is what I need to do work at the little goals.
Understand the Obstacles: Hmm that one is a good one and it is usually me as that is the obstacle. Having tried and failed so many times it is easy to fall into the trap of 'I tried' well that is changing. The other obstacles are learning to say 'No' and getting people to take you seriously. Knowing what the obstacle is and how to overcome it. Don't see the obstacle as insurmountable see it getting smaller and easier to manage.
Create a Positive Mental Picture: That means seeing myself achieve my goals not the big goals but the little ones. See the goal of exercising being achieved, saying 'No' and meaning it. See the smaller portion on the plate and knowing it will fill you. See myself doing these things and enjoying the results.
Clear you mind of self doubt: How many times have I said this time I will do this and failed? too many and that builds up a barrier, you get into things for a few weeks and then it all starts to slip away bit by bit. So this has to be cleared away and the barrier of self doubt has to be knocked down. How? Setting small goals, having positive affirmations to work with and stop looking at the big picture and realise you can only build a new home brick by brick. That is what we are doing building a new us goal by goal.
The saying is Rome was not built in a day, well getting fit and losing weight is not going to happen quickly. Know that I can do this I know what to do and no one can stop me.
Embrace the Challenge: See each challenge as something we can do. I do not like exercise, it is painful and far from enjoyable so this is a big challenge for me. Yet I have joined the January Jumpstart Challenge and actually enjoying it. You see I know I need to exercise for many reasons but I am doing this to prove to myself that I can exercise, rather than to lose weight,it is to say to myself ' See I can do it'.
Stay on Track: Oh boy that is so easy to say and so hard to do at times. Birthdays, Anniversaries, Holidays, Outings, Family gatherings, Feeling unwell, Well meaning partners who say 'go on have a treat'. All the little things that can get you to have that little extra portion or not to exercise . So how am I going to beat these things? When tempted to have that bit extra or not to exercise (unless I am unable to when my back is just too painful and I am laid up), I am going to take a mental look at how far I have come. My problem is I have that extra portion and I do the same the next day I still have to say No. One day at a time is the key for me.
Show the World you can do it: That is going to be the most satisfying thing ever. To say 'See I did it just as I said I would'. That will show all tose people who think she has said this before that I can do it.
Does that mean it will be easy? No
Does it mean that if I succumb to temptation that all is lost? No
What is does mean is this. I am going to succeed and when I do get discouraged or tempted and it will happen, I can take a look at how far I have come and know that I can do this.
Being here means I can do this as I have friends who will support me and I in turn will support them.
So Success is possible and I am determined to succeed.
