Elliptical owners... please help!

Thursday, January 03, 2013

I intend to purchase an elliptical in the very near future, but I have little experience with ellipticals for home use. I have a Horizon Fitness treadmill that I love, but I am not sure if their ellipticals are of the same quality.

I have only used ellipticals at the gym. I don't necessarily want to shell out $2,000+ for a gym quality elliptical... but at the same time I don't want to get a $400 piece of junk either.

Which elliptical did you purchase... and why?

Which brands are the best?

Which models are the best?

Which features are the best to have?

Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated!

Help! =)

I have the NordicTrack Act Pro. I like it because it's super smooth and I'm not supposed to do impact workouts. I love being able to workout at home, no matter the weather. This one feels less like running and more like climbing steps, lots of steps. So, it's great that way. But I'm SO glad we shelled out the extra bucks for the extended warranty. I don't know if we got a lemon, or if I just wear that thing out, but we've had to get service on it at least four times. And we got one of the heavier, industrial type of models. Whatever you get, you might want to check to see if they have an extended warranty. Apparently, Sparkers wear out their gear...

I just got a horizon one a few weeks before christmas and I love it! Here is a link to it:

It has a lot of reviews and 4/5 stars. It was easy to assemble and I love it!

Unfortunately, I don't have a good recommendation, but I do have one that I'm not crazy about. I believe mine is by Reebok. I bought it from Sam's Club a few years ago. I think the stride length is too short or something. It is very difficult to use and I feel like my legs are dying after about 1 minute, even though I can use the ones at the gym for atleast 15 minutes.

Anyway, sorry if this wasn't particularly helpful. I would definitely make sure I could try one before I bought it next time. Good luck on your journey.

I did check out consumer reports and some of the local sporting goods store's websites. I'm interested in some good reviews though. A lot of the machines have no reviews or only a couple of reviews. I just want to make sure I get my money's worth.

Sorry, can't help here! But have you tried CONSUMER REPORTS? Good luck, cause I am with you, I dread spending money on HOME GYM equipment, and it only collects dust, clothes, etc. I GIVE YOU LOTS of CREDIT, because I am not great at doing things at home....I get wrapped up with other things. That is my reason to go to classes, for the Seniors, but you are WAY TO YOUNG, thank goodness, and have lots of good living to do!

Hugs,
Fran
