2012 In Review Making Fresh Starts For 2013

With the close of 2012, I looked back to when I started Sparkpeople Dec 27, 2011 with a goal that I thought was prudent but did not meet by my anniversary date. Last year that would have crushed me, brought me down and discouraged me to the point of giving in and giving up.
I discovered that something inside me changed. I learned that weight is just a number and looking at the scale as the only way to determine my success was not the right fit for me.
I learned that inches lost and feeling better in general as well as in my clothes was a better measure of my success.
I learned to track my calories and my workouts and that those were the numbers that really count for me. I had always considered that my diet was healthy until I began tracking my calories, learning about portion size and setting fitness goals only to find that things I could never do before were possible, that I could do a pushup, tricep dips and lift heavier than before.
I Iearned that you are never too old to start over, to learn something new and to really enjoy a workout. So I did not lose 40 pounds, I am not a size 6 and lost my focus after I was unable to run due to physical issues, almost gave up. I discovered running is not the only Cardio and I walked, i tried boxing and kettlebell intervals and fell in love with challenge again. Overall , 2012 was not a bad year because I learned so much.
Happy New Year, as we enter 2013, I'm back logging workouts and tracking my food. Looking at a fresh start and using all the tools acquired in 2012. No lofty goals, no size 6 mindset just one day at a time, one foot in front of the other and one more challenge to meet. Be safe, be well but most of all be the best you there is.
