I bought a fitbit so I could track/log my activity automatically. And there was no monthly subscription to buy. I had been using a Bodybugg but I resented having to pay the monthly fee and it wasn't linked to Spark People.

Another reason I bought the fitbit was to track/log my sleep. My doctor recommended that I get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. I thought I was getting that much sleep. After a few days of using my fitbit, I realized I was actually getting closer to 6 hours per night. And not the best quality sleep, either.

I love my fitbit! Since getting it I am more motivated to move--I get up and walk about throughout the day rather than sit at my classroom table. I also have been working on the sleep. Last night I got almost 7.5 hours! Being sleep deprived is not fun. I'm feeling so much better!

And now it is time for fitbit and I to go and practice the cardio dance routine that I'm teaching tonight at an area senior center.

Do you have a fitbit or other tracking gadget? How has it helped you on your quest for better health/fitness? Leave me a comment. I'd love to hear from you!

I have been using a pedometer for almost three years, then I got a Fitbit Ultra for Christmas. I love the fact that that I can wear it discretely, my Omron pedometer was a bit big. So far, I love it!

No, I don't have one, but I've been wondering about all this fitbit talk. Your post has inspired me to look into it a bit more. Good for you for getting in more rest and movement! I, too, struggle with getting in enough quality sleep. Hmmm...perhaps something else to add to my 2013 goals....

Happy New Year to you and yours!

I got my Fitbit last June but didn't really put it to use until it linked with SP and now I live by the accountability it holds me to! I'm glad you found it, and that you aren't having to pay for tracking anymore! Check out and see how you can link up there to earn rewards for tracking.

I picked up a fitbit before New Years and am finding it a great way to track my daily calories and sleep. Some of the results have been "eye-opening", but really not too surprising.

If you want, check out my fitbit profile and add me as a friend...

I don't, but I would like one! I had a little money to invest in fitness equipment and selected a ball, mat, and stretchy band instead. Maybe when I have another windfall, I'll get one. Enjoy yours though! They seem like great gadgets. My husband has trouble getting and staying asleep, don't know if he'd appreciate a Fitbit reminding him of it, but I was thinking he'd like one.

That's something I may look into when we get our tax return. I think it's something I would really like, but right now (just after Christmas, hubby hasn't been at his new job long) it's just not feasible.

I received a Fitbit Zip for Christmas and really like very very easy to use.. no putting in numbers/figures.... it does itself with Sparkpeople! I wish it had the sleep app, but it doesn't... not complaining thankful to have what I have!

I've been debating a fitbit...thank you for the review! It's always helpful to hear from an actual human being who is using something :)
