Everyone Else is Doing It!

Making New Year's Resolutions that is. Or setting goals. Or whatever you want to call it. And I want everyone to like me, so I'm going to be a joiner!! emoticon

That, and if I write down my goals, I'll be able to refer to this blog to remember what I want and why.

Goal 1: do one unassisted pull up. I'm closer than I've ever been, but still need to gain ~60 pounds of strength. Better than the 100+ I started at. Why do an unassisted pull up? Cos I think it will be cool!

Goal 2: Learn some Mandarin Chinese. I realize that fluency isn't viable in the year I have planned. But I can learn some words and maybe some symbols. Why? Many of the folks I work with speak English as a second language. Mandarin Chinese is their first language. They've learned English. Why shouldn't I learn Chinese?

Goal 3: make the 2 for 8 Challenge a habit. The goal is to get up and walk at least two minutes evey hour for each of the eight hours (oh, if I worked only 8 hours per day) you are working. I got at least six in today. I'm on my way!

That's it. Three things. Enough to keep me busy, but not so much I get overwhelmed.

May you all meet your goals!

Very good thinking here! Mandarin is on my to do list (but I am at Swahili right now...) Like the get up and walk for two minutes drill during work. I usually have to do it anyway b/c the chief decided that the printer for all of us should be in 2nd floor! He may be concerned with our health, don't you think?

Hey, if I jumped off a bridge would you follow me?
Are you going to use that new language learning software? I can't even remember the name. I would love to learn German as it was my paternal grandparents' native language. My dad grew up with them and couldn't speak a word of it. Got a D in German in high school.
I tried to use the Roman chair at the gym, but have NO upper body strength. I almost blew out the shoulder that I had repaired two years ago. I won't be trying again any time soon.
I guess I don't have to worry about the third goal. I spend hours every day on my feet. HaHa!
It's going to be a great year!

    Great goals!

Love the "2 for 8" goals. My husband has a sedentary job. I will forward that idea on to him!

An unassisted pull up would be cool. Would also be easier if I lost 50 lbs!!

working on goals with others is a great way to be successful. i studies spanish in high school and college, but i no longer used it when i graduated. 1 place i worked has some native speakers and i was able to practice with them. it led to making a few more relationships and getting more respect.

Okay, what did John say? Or is that just a bunch of symbols? I think it would be difficult to learn Mandarin without having someone to speak with. So, you should have your kids or dh learn along with you! Just tell them I said so, and I'm sure they'll be totally thrilled about it!

    Everyone's doing it, that's why I don't.

I like your goals though. I still haven't managed that unassisted pull up either, not that I have been training for it.

Always good to learn new things. Are you going to learn how to write too? ;)

Happy New Year!
