Here it is, January 2, 2013. Wanted to start blogging on the first day of the year but was unfamiliar as to how to go about blogging. Read the article on blogging, so here it goes.
I am a 66 year old grandmother of 8, all grandsons. I wouldn't have it any differently. They are all fun-loving and exciting little boys ranging in ages from 5 to 12. They love climbing and jumping on me, messing my hair and like to be rough with this old gal. I also love the interaction I have with my grandsons. They are the love of my life, along with my husband of 45 years and our three grown children. I need to be healthy for them and for myself.
I have been overweight most of my life. Other than running here and there with my children as they were growing up, I never really paid much attention to me, much less exercise. I can recall I had tried a gym but never stuck with it. I also tried Curves in later years but didn't feel that I got anything out of that either.
I reached my all time high of 269 back in 2007 at which time I joined Weight Watchers. This was my second or third go around. I would start and end up quitting after a couple of months. In 2007 I stuck it out for 4 years and lost approximately 52 pounds. Quit for about a year and returned for another six months before realizing I was wasting money that I couldn't afford to lose. I found SP back in August of 2011, an on again, off again kind of thing. I came back to SP in November as a practice run. I began tracking my food and saw how many calories and carbohydrates I was actually taking in. I was not happy. I bought a fitbit and began seeing that I wasn't moving very much. I also keep seeing my blood glucose levels are moving slowly upward.
Now is the time for a true commitment to myself and SP. I have read several blogs and found out I'm not alone in my struggles. I see how supportive the SP community can be. I feel I am ready to start my journey with the help of SP. Now I need to set my first goal.
