Off to a pretty good start

I struggled a bit on a few of my goals yesterday but am back on track today. One of the most difficult for me is planning my meals in advance. I normally have chicken, lean meats and fish in the freezer, so very often dinner is a piece of protein, a potato, and a vegetable. Simple.

But I'm trying to eat less animal products. So I'm struggling a bit. I went to the grocery store yesterday, today, and probably will go tomorrow. This weekend I'll try to put together a WEEKLY menu so I can reduce trips to the store. Am I only person who goes into the store for one thing and comes out $50 poorer? (ha ha)

We walked 8 miles today and I feel good. We have to walk slowly! Eight miles equalled 18,000 steps so you can I was taking a lot more steps per mile.

I meditated today which is another really difficult thing for me to find time to do; I'm not one to be still OR quiet! I also listened to a podcast "Inside Out Weight Loss."

I feel good about where I am today!

    You ARE in a good place! Congratulations! I'm not entirely vegetarian, but I find when I explore ethnic cuisine it's easier to avoid meat. It's not as simple as meat, 'tater, veg, but it's worth it in the long run. It just takes a different mindset to eat differently -- that takes time. Maybe you can try bean-based soups once a week.

DH and I have beans once or twice a week (black and cannellini, usually).

    Way to go. I struggled with meditation when I first started. I'm such a go, go, go person that it was hard for me to stop & shut the brain off. Then one day it happened..I compleatly realaxed, turned off the brain & it was amazing. emoticon

    Thank god you are still here TG! So Vandal went AWOL... I can understand his motives but I still hope he'll be back. I am still using my fitbit and everyday I see the astronomical amounts of steps you are doing. I am trying to up my steps to 10,000 a day. Not easy in this incredibly cold weather (-30C). Luckily, I am back at work as of today and I will be able to do my "tunnel walks". You'll probably see my numbers go up on Fitbit. (Did I say "back at work" and "lucky" in the same sentence?LOL)

Keep up the meditation. I believe it will help you focus. emoticon

    I admire you for the amount you are walking each day. I can relate to the shopping trip - so many interesting things to try - the only way I every get out with a reasonable bill is to shop after I have made my weekly meal plan and to stick to that shopping list. Let us know what you are making.

    Have patience with yourself. making changes takes some getting used to, just like increasing your steps or prepping for a 1/2 marathon. You are expanding your horizons... it feels odd at first, then it become the norm. Take care of the glut muscle, has it healed already?

    Focus will get you there for sure -- awareness of and planning for are the two keys that can take you all the way to goal. Looking back it will seem easier than it actually was these first few days...

    I noticed that your steps went way up for the week. Good for you! You should feel good. I'm glad you're back on track after your injury.
