Some place along 2012, I discovered goal setting. Duh, I don’t know why it took so long for the dime to drop on that message. I realize it’s a message that is all over this website. In any case, goal setting helped me accomplish good things in 2012. Most importantly, I feel in control again.
2011 was a wash. No gain. No loss. In 2012, I am so happy I tried new things and learned to analyze what happened, both good and bad. I could have thrown in the towel. I’m glad for all the circumstances that lead me to keep going.
In 2013, I’m going to keep improving. I plan to accomplish the following goals:
Swim 75 miles in the course of a year. Last year, I jumped in with others on a SP team that had a goal of 100 miles. I learned that was a little too ambitious for me. I made it to 55, though. This year, I’ll aim a little higher.

Run one mile in one shot. In the past, I’ve gotten soar hips, knees, or shins while trying to run. I finally found a surface that seems to agree with me. It’s the bark covered trail near my home/office. Currently, I can throw in a few steps of jogging with my walks. I’ll make them add up to a mile by year’s end.
3/1 I've made progress on this. I got up to 4.5 mph on the treadmill and found that to be a good pace to attempt my run. I have gone up to 2 min. at a time in intervals. This is on pause as I've hired a chiroprator that asked me not to jump around until treatment is done. Since I paid lots of money for it, I'll do what she says, but the fact I hired what I would otherwise think of as as junk doctoring, shows how dissatisfied I've been with my regular medical practicioner.
4/4 I'm not sure if it was a mile or what, but in my bootcamp class I ran/jogged for 10.5 minutes straight. That's the longest I've ever done that.
5/? We ran the same 'mile' and I did it in 9:47, what? yes. progress.
5/24 My tail bone hurts after trying 5 minute run, 3 minut walk of the c25k.

Go on the stair mill at 60 steps per minute for 15 minutes. Yesterday I tested myself to see how far I can go. I’m at 12 minutes. If I make it to 15 before the year ends, then I’ll up the ante, or focus on the other goals here.

Have average weekly calorie consumption within my suggested limits 75% of the time. (39 weeks) In 2011, when I lost or gained nothing, I’m assuming I did what I needed to do 50% of the time. In 2012, I must have done well at least 51% of the time. So, this year I’ll aim for 75% of the time. (I realize the math is missing lots of variables, but hey, I need a goal and this seems like a good one.)
week 1, week 3, week 4, week 6, week 7, week, 8, week 12, week 13, week 14, week 17, week 18, week 19, week 20, week 21 (14/22 = 63%)
Do one unassisted pull-up. This is probably the biggest stretch. But, hey, aim big, right?
6/6 started playing on the playground equiment with (I'm calling them) leaning pull ups. Still working up to negatives. I can't hang at the bar yet.
I'll still need to break these down into monthly goals and weekly goals. Those posts will come.
