Tried on Wedding Dresses ~ NOT GOOD!! :-(

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

UUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, today was not a good day for me. I tried on wedding dresses & instead ended up leaving in tears!!! I was in size 24 wedding dress!!! Talk about sad & depressing. Everything looked horrible on me & don't even know if I will find a wedding dress. I getting married in less than 3 months. I may just be in some pants & shirt. I am going to work my very best to bust my ass these next couple of months.

This means no breads, fried foods, chips, cookies, cake ~ any junk food!!! I must drop at least 20 pounds by mid-March!!

Just needed to vent about my sad day at the bridal store... On a mission to lose some weight & hopefully be a little fitter by wedding day!!

Okay, the dress is important...but keep in mind it's the smile you wear on your wedding day that will say all you need to say on that magical day. Pick a dress that helps to accentuate the areas you want and keep stepping girl with your plan to live a healthier lifestyle. Stay strong! emoticon

Oh I know how you feel. I believe I had to wear that same size when I got married. Wedding dresses sizes are significantly different than normal clothing sizes so PLEASE do not focus on the size on the dress tag. By the time of your wedding it will have been altered so much, it will be size YOU and that will be all that matters.
Another tip from my time shopping for dresses: Try one of the smaller, boutique type wedding dress shops where you have someone assigned to help you and you tell her what you are looking for and they pull dresses for you. Sample size dresses won't fit girls like us, but a good consultant will make sure you feel beautiful regardless of whether the sample dress zips. My first day shopping was at a David's Bridal and it was a nightmare! No help at all and I hated everything. Second attempt, I went to a small shop on a spur of the moment decision because I heard they were having a sale. Showed up without an appointment, yet the fit me in anyways. My consultant, Irina (its been 9 years and I still remember her as an angel from God), talked with me about what I was looking for and within half an hour pulled two beautiful dresses I couldn't even begin to decide between. She even respected the budget too.

Long story short, don't give up and don't be discouraged by the size on the dress. Find a place that treats you right and you will find the perfect dress, I promise.

I got married one day before my son was born and wedding dress shopping would have been the same if not worse experience as yours. I totally understand. We just decided to do a small wedding and then sometime in the next year or two renew our vowes and do the wedding dress thing!!

*hugs* Wedding dress shopping is a tough one. We always expect it to be all puppies and rainbows when we start the process, but it rarely is. I tried on every dress in 5 stores. EVERY DRESS! And I hated all of them. None of them fit me elegantly, none made me feel beautiful, none were right for my body. But because it was the very first time I'd ever looked for a wedding dress I needed to learn!

My lessons were:

1. Size does not matter. I was a size 16-18 in normal clothes and would fit into anything from 14-22 dresses. Instead of the sizes, ask yourself, does this make me feel awesome? Does it highlight the things I want to highlight? If yes, then win. If not then get another one.

2. You can make alterations. The dress I finally ended up with did not have straps (which as busty as I am was a requirement) and it had a gigantic panel from the top to navel that was just lattice. We were able to hand bead some beautiful straps and sew in a panel that made the dress less hookerish.

3. Try it on don't judge off the rack. The dress I chose in the end was sorta skanky. But the lines and the beading had my heart. Throw it on anyway and LOOK at it. Oh heavens, it can make a huge difference!

4. There is no "The" dress. I found a corset dress I loved. It fit well, it made me feel great and checked all my bridal boxes. But it fell through suddenly- and I panicked! But the next time I tried on dresses I found one that was even BETTER than the original, cost less and was more unique. There is no one dress like the movies. This isn't true love, it's dress shopping. Remember that.

5. NO CRASH DIETS! No no no no no no no! Say it to yourself, I will respect my body by giving her the nourishment she needs. I will not yo-yo diet. There are so many reasons this doesn't work. Please please please don't crash diet. Keep making good choices, keep drinking water, and keep exercising. But stressing about 20 lbs will not make you happy. And you, my dear, deserve to be happy especially at this point in your life!

I think dress shopping is like swimsuit shopping, but more fun and less...well.. naked. You've gotta figure out what makes you feel great - and that takes learning! I hope your learning curve is short and that you find the dress that makes you sparkle on your special day!

Wedding dresses run REALLY small! I wear size 6 pants/dresses, etc normally. I was put into a size 13 wedding dress! a 13!! They measured my bust all wrong, my waist all wrong, and every measurement they took was wrong. I almost cried that I was in a size 13!! That was a BIG number to me too! So, I vowed to reduce the "size" of the gown every time I visited my alteration lady- she took one look at the dress and said "They should have given you an 8 based on your measurements". And you know what? I lost 12 pounds before my wedding, and she had to take it in EVERY time I visited her! I loved my alteration lady- she probably didn't love me. :-)

Wedding dresses run really really small. Praying you find the perfect dress and that size will not matter. You'll be focused on you and your love. The beautiful and precious marriage you will have. emoticon

Oh Precious, whatever you need to do, you will do - rest assured. Make a plan for food and exercise and drink you water - you are a gift and you deserve to treat yourself as such. You are beautiful now, embrace you! and all will be well.

Remember, the sizes of wedding dresses is not the same as regular clothes! They're cut much smaller than everyday clothes. Your fiance will find you beautiful in anything, I'm sure! emoticon

I like the idea of finding a bridesmaids dress in white , ivory or champagne and dressing it up with jewelry. Not only will you save tons of money, but you will be more comfortable then in a bridal gown.

    Hey Love,
Keep your head up. You will drop 20 pounds. Have you ever thought about going “RAW”, just a thought? I plan on going Raw on the 6th of this month, but I am only going to eat 80% raw and 20% cooked. So, that means I’ll have 3 to 4 raw meals and 1 cooked meal at dinner time. I haven’t worked out my bugs, but that is something you can look into and also use to reprogram your metabolism. I wish you the best love, and I hope you find the right dress that fits your needs.

You can do it. Drink tons of water in addition to eating right. Crossing fingers and sending focused disciplined thoughts to you.

I was not in the shape I wanted to be in when I got married and I too had a sad moments with trying on dresses. Then I found it, a beautiful empire waist dress that made me feel like a goddess. I promise that you too will find this type of dress that makes you feel like the beautiful woman you are. emoticon

I'm so sorry that you had a hard time shopping. I think wedding attire runs small myself. I was part of a wedding party not too long ago and I was completely shocked by the size dress I needed to get. I know I'm big, but that was ridiculous AND depressing.
Good luck with your goal!!

I am so soryy that you are having such a tough time. I think that I can help you out here. I got married this past June. I still have my wedding gown. Yes it was a gown not a bridesmaids dress and its beautiful. I can send you a picture of it. You will have to get it cleaned though. If you like it, it's yours for next to nothing.

I'm so sorry that this was not the experience you expected. There are so many unreasonable and expensive expectations tied with the "bridal industry". Go to any regular store where you enjoy shopping and find dresses you like. When you go back to a bridal shop, be armed with the knowledge of what styles you like. When my daughter chose a dress, her main idea was to get something simple and comfortable. She did and it was beautiful. I'm sure you will be beautiful too.

wedding dress shopping was traumatic for me too, and I still cringe at some of the wedding pictures. My mom and I did end up looking at BRIDESMAIDS dresses that came in white. I found their sizes friendly and their prices even friendlier. Good luck!
