According to Cinderella (or was it Sleeping Beauty?) dreams are a wish your heart makes when you are asleep.
And I think that goals are only wishes or dreams unless you (according to Dr Phil) (gee, I'm on fire today with the famous quotations!) put verbs in your sentences!
What I mean is...
So, you set yourself some SMART goals, you wrote them down and you put them in prominent places in your life so you'll be reminded of them.
After all that work, you decided you need a cup of tea and to watch a bit of TV to relax.... Then you do a few more "things" (that might be fun, but have nothing to do with what you really want to achieve/experience in life)...
And you get to the end of the week/month/year and you notice that you've been really busy but that you haven't really made any headway towards your goals... so you reset them for the next time period... Sound familiar? (I was actually describing my own actions, but am happy to share the guilt!)
This week I spent a lot - A LOT - of time setting my goals for this year. And when I woke up (my goodness, is it January 3 already?!) I realised that all I had achieved so far was to set goals...
I realised that, once you have set your goals, you then need to decide on the manageable (SMART) steps to meet all of them... for me an important part of this process was to actually write them into my weekly plan.
So now I feel like I might actually meet my goals this year! WOW! That's pretty exciting!
(You probably already knew all of this, but for me it was a new concept and explained why each year seems to fly by with no visible signs of success.)
If you haven't already done it, perhaps you might like to take some time today to look at your goals, break them into manageable tasks and (without the aid of a fairy godmother) watch the magic happen!
