2013...a new year and a new me.

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

2012 was a great year, I lost 11 lbs and gained a master's degree! Unfortunately with the added stress of my last semester and the holidays, I gained back 8 lbs. However, this is just a small hiccup in my journey. I now have more free time to exercise and focus on eating healthier.

Over the last few days I have been thinking about what has worked best for me in the past and what has never worked. As much as I kind of dislike going to the gym after work, it has been the only thing that has shown real results. I think in an effort to try to like the gym more, I may ease my way back into it. Meaning just for now going 2-3 times a week and on the other days I will be using my eliptical at home. I would like to get back in the gym 5 times per week but that is something I need to work at. Ideally, I would love a gym partner but I have learned to just not count on anyone else because they often let me down. In the end you have to rely on your strength to succeed. I also would like to start cooking more at home, that way I have something healthy and filling to take for lunches.

So here is my plan:

Mondays-
Eliptical at home
Walk with Missy

Tuesdays-
Gym work out for at least 30 minutes and do 15 minutes of strength

Wednesdays-
Eliptical at home
Walk Missy

Thursdays-
Gym, cardio 30 minutes and strength 15 minutes

Fridays-
Eliptical at home

Saturdays-
May try to meet up with a friend at our local gym, if not then a long walk with Missy outside, Wii, or eliptical.

Sundays-
Rest day

Because I have really not done any exercise in the last 3 months, I know I am out of shape so easing myself back into exercise just will work out the best for me. My goal is to be in the 160's by the summertime and ultimately at 144 at some point since that is where I need to be for a healthy BMI.

Wish me luck!

Great plan and awesome goals! It's so smart of you to take a moment to figure out what has and hasn't worked. Many people never do this and keep doing the same thing over and over which doesn't give them any positive results.
Congrats on the masters degree! Yay Ash! I just finished my first graduate class and I'm already worried about how I'm going to do school on top of everything else. I know you put in a lot of time and hard work and it must feel so good to be done!

It is so true that you cannot rely on anyone else on your journey. It is good to have the companionship but you also have that in your beautiful puppy emoticon .

Good luck, girl! You are so awesome, and I Know you will lose the weight in no time! We've both just got to stay focused and keep on pushin' on! You've got a good, solid plan, and I know you will get back to this! :D Let's keep each other accountable in this new year and make sure we are both staying focused and doing our best. We don't have to be perfect by any means, but tracking and working out for sure! :)

hugs,

Tori

Good luck! You have a plan and that is the start. I have a gym membership and used to go in the mornings, but once you stop getting up at 4:40, it is hard to start back. Since October I have been walking my dog for 30 minutes each morning at a minimum. She loves it! Some days I will put her back in the house (she is 12 yrs old) and do another 30 minutes. Then in the evenings I walk her 30 minutes again. I LOVE the elliptical but don't have one at home. I have just started doing some of the SP videos because I know I need the strength training. I also bought a yoga DVD because I know the stretching will be good for me. My goal is to be 160 by the end of May. Here is to us!
