My thirteen year old daughter wants to get in shape, and she's bringing me along with her! She actually got on the elliptical last night while I was playing Wii bowling with my seven year old twins. Mary is a very sweet girl. She's talented musically and very artistic. I never signed her up for dance class when she was younger, and unfortunately, it shows. She's grown taller than me, but is still very much a girl and is very funny. Think "Sue Heck" from "The Middle," only not so extreme. She also has lots of friends, so she's not invisible like the TV character.
Mary did well on the elliptical, once I helped her figure out how to turn it on and get it set to a program. We stretched after that. She's not very flexible. I'm encouraging her, and teaching her. She's young so she can get there. It was still funny as we made each other laugh while we stretched together. I also spent some time teaching Mary some proper technique with the weights. We have both free weights and a weight machine. She showed me some of her PE moves. I like the inch worm. That one is fun.
That was Day 1 of my new 10 minutes of exercise per day streak. Handy that it was January 1st. That will help a lot with the counting.
Day 2- Mary wanted to do the Zumba game together. We did the first easy routine, a 20 min routine, plus one tutorial. I showed Mary the tutorials at the end. She needs to go through them. I had to explain that I took some dance as a kid, was a cheerleader, pom squad at college, and did Jazzercise after that. I have some rhythm, at least not bad for a 44 year old mother of six.
I plan to get back to eating low carb. I made over six hundred cookies, and I ate way too many of them. Feast days are done. Baking is done. Hubby and I are both round. Mary wants to be more athletic, as do my other kids. We have started as a family. Hubby is starting to eat better. I think he's eaten better than me this last week.
I plan to start another 10 minute per day of exercise streak. I need it. Once I skip a day, I skip lots of days. I'll include stretching and weights this time. I always felt like I had to do cardio for my exercise. I need to do all three. I feel good today. I feel my muscles from yesterday, mostly my abs from some of the PE exercises I tried, and my right arm from Wii bowling.
Pretty sad that such a small amount of exercise made me sore, but I feel great that I was able to do 20 minutes of Zumba today.
Happy New Spark Year everyone!
