Limping into 2013

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

I've been away for a while. Since before Thanksgiving to be exact. I lost heart and fell off the wagon but, thankfully, not as far as I've fallen in the past.

I re-injured my hip just by leaning forward (from a sitting position yet!!) with my leg in the wrong position. I had a sinus infection & went to the Dr. for that. When I brought up the hip, I was asked to make another appointment. Two weeks later, the Dr. looks at me like he's hearing about this for the first time (expect future rant about my experiences with the medical profession - grrrrr!).

He checked the range of motion, advised me that a dislocated hip usually locks and has to be forced back in with the help of heavy muscle relaxers. Since mine went back in on its own, he asked if I'd ever been diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (also known as EDS). I haven't, but my niece has. So, I have an appointment with an orthopedist next week. In the meantime, I have to rest it and take an anti-inflammatory (both of which I was already doing).

I'm starting to have trouble with my knees and shoulder again from the inactivity. I can walk, but have to be careful how I step. The joint doesn't feel stable. I'm REALLY hoping that all I need is physical therapy to build up the muscles around my hip. It worked for my knees. I'm not afraid of sweat, but the thought of surgery scares me. A lot. Prayers that nothing serious is going on and that surgery won't be needed will be MUCH appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the rough start to your year. emoticon I too fell off the map last fall, after spraining my back and then a month later severely spraining my ankle. Ugh! When it rains it pours! But we came back, and now we just take the next step, and then the next...CAREFULLY so we don't get injured anymore! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sympathize with you. I have sciatica and knees that aren't cooperating. Fell flat on my face on my porch, banged my head and knees in Oct. Before that, July I think, I twisted my knee badly and am still recovering from that. Was told it may take a year to be normal again. emoticon

When checking my emails this AM, I saw this newsletter from Dr Ben Kim. He is a naturopathic doctor from Canada. I enjoyed this article so much, I wanted to share because so many of us are dealing with chronic pain or disease. It is well worth the reading.
