The Rankings came out... challenging myself to longer distances and faster speeds...

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

Well I am disappointed with my performance as compared to others on the 5K... so I need to work on that. I came in 143rd of 205 runners (69th %ile by my calculation) and 9th of 12 among women 45-49.

I can do better than this. If I'd been just a minute faster, I would have been 10 higher overall and 7th by age and gender.

I will just keep pounding that pavement and see what I can do.

My hips are still sore and kind of stiff. There are some pretty good hills on the course and that combined with the cold made the course more challenging than the distance.

My plan is to get myself to where I can run 10K (6.2 miles) without stopping... I can do 5K on the treadmill with no incline... so I will just slowly increase my distance 1K at a time. It's a challenge, so by year's end, I should be ready and able to do that 10K!

But at least you now have a base from where to start and compare future events! It's hard to compare yourself to others also, you could be in a very small event with the same time you ran and come in first if the other runners were newbies, or you could come in dead last if you are running against gazelles! That's why I try to look at my time and compare to myself rather than those other runners, especially since I have no idea what their training and natural talents are.

Really that is amazing! I know that you will push and have a higher ranking next time.Knowing where you want to stand and then going for it is half the battle.

I know you are disappointed in your performance but just think how many more people who were at home sitting on their couch? YOU were actually out there giving it your all. emoticon

I look forward to seeing a status update about you doing a 10K. I've never done one and it would be awesome to finish one with running all the way.
