Starting the new year in a positive light

This past week, I have done more for myself and my life than I have in a long time.
My fiance and I were preparing to host a NYE party at our house. So of course we had a long list of things that needed to be accomplished before guests arrived.
"We need to prioritize the list," I wisely said. "We need to make sure the common areas where everyone will be hanging out are looking good before moving on to other areas they're likely not to be."
But that didn't happen.
Instead, we did all sorts of work upstairs. We painted our guest bedroom and rearranged furniture; painted the guest bathroom, including all of the trim and two cabinets, added a towel bar, and put up a new shower curtain; organized our office and installed a new office desk and desk chair.
And I love it. Our house feels so much more like our own home now. You see, my fiance had a roommate up until about a week and a half ago. So those rooms were his. And now it feels like we have so much more room, and our place is so much fresher and brighter. It makes me happy when I walk by those rooms.
So did we follow the original plan? No. But it was worth it.
I've also established a cleaning routine, and so far, I've stuck to it! That's saying a lot for me since I usually don't like cleaning. I have things broken out by which day I need to do them (today I need to sweep/mop all floors in the house, aside from carpeted ones, of course).
And on New Years Day, I worked out. And not just a little bit. I got my sweat on. I did the January Jumpstart workout on Spark, did 45 minutes of Just Dance 4, did 10 pushups (I'm in a challenge to work my way up to 100 pushups in one day by Jan. 31), and rode the exercise bike for 20 minutes.
Now I just need to get my eating in check. All of these sweets and excessive amounts of food need to say good bye!
