2013 is off to a good start

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

i indulged a bit on New year's Eve, but earlier in the day I got about 90 minutes of exercise in.

Also I saw my doctor for my annual physical and she was very pleased with everything across the board. It was keep up the good work and come back in 4 months. Apparently for some one who turns 61 in April I am in great shape.

My goal now is to get in better shape by the next appointment- 8 days before my birthday.

I am also planning on make a plan on how I will deal with eating and exercise while on a 10 day vacation starting on the 12. I will be in the car for 2000 miles during the trip. I am thinking about taking my exercise cords with me.

Sweet!! I think that is so awesome. So many people die early from 100% preventable causes because we aren't TAUGHT and encouraged but rather just throw out there and ridiculed instead. I wish SP had been around when I was a teen and young adult. Of course if I knew then what I know now I'd be rich and famous as well as thin right ;D

It's definitely a good idea to make a plan to help get through a vacation with healthier habits intact. Things like packing snacks and easy-to-grab meals (sandwiches, granola bars, trail mix, etc) tends to be helpful with long trips to avoid fast-food and restaurant meals. Bringing a few bottles of water and pre-planning where rest stops are will keep stopping and unnecessary temptations to a minimum. Plus, if you take a few minutes at each rest stop to do some standing stretches, take a short walk, and use stretchy bands held by car doors to do quick workouts will get the blood flowing and work kinks out of the joints when you do stop.

    Great report from the doctor!

It IS challenging to exercise while on a trip by car. Once on a long trip since I had the car on cruise control, I raised my legs alternately, slowly raising and lowering for several repetitions. If someone else is sharing the driving, of course, you can vary some kind of workout. Spark has some seated workout videos you might want to check out to incorporate in the long trip. Also, at potty stops maybe you can give yourself a ten minute little cardio workout.

I'm approaching 60 myself, and would like to be in "ONEderland" by then. It just takes longer the older we get!
Blessings to you on your journey to a healthier you.
