Change Of Plans

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

I mentioned on yesterday's blog that I was going to work out to Sweatin' To The Oldies today, well I discovered that I'm not coordinated enough to do that. I would like to exercise my whole body for 10-15 minutes a day lifting weights or using the bands or something. Anybody have any ideas? For now, I'm going to walk & add movements to my walking. emoticon

I agree about not giving up on it too soon because I know the first couple times I do a workout I'm like "I HATE this thing!" and want to get rid of it but usually end up loving it!

Since I've been relegated (temporarily!) to no impact workouts, I've been doing lots of free weights. To get a cardio effect, I use 5 lb hand weights then either do the "gazelle" hand motions (like you're skiing) or like you're using a hand bike but with weights, that one really gets my heart rate up. Even just alternating raising my arms up and down with 5-8 lbs weights do a good job of raising my heart rate. Strength training is VERY important so anything you can do is a good thing!

It takes awhile to get all of the moves down so don't give up on Rchard! You may do it "ugly" but at least yu are doing it! Just to be moving for the first couple of songs will give you the movement you want, even if your moves aren't just like the videos. I like the videos "Walk Away The Pounds" but my knees don't let me do the marching part of the routine. So instead I pace the floor when the video is marching.

You'll be surprised how quickly you will get some of the moves down with some repeated attemps.

You can do it!

I'm just re-starting, so I have no advice for you....but I do want to thank you for reminding me I do have "Sweatin' to the Oldies" video, and I used to love it about a hundred years ago. I'm dusting it off and I will alternate it with walking every day. But I do recall not being able to get through the whole thing for quite some time. So don't give up on it....even if it's 5 or 6 minutes (in addition to your other workouts), then keep adding a minute or'll get there. It's just fun for me, so again, thanks for the reminder (and motivation)!
