The Start of a New Year

I've never been big on New Year's resolutions, but since I'm on Sparkpeople and goal setting is kind of a big deal around here, I have decided on some goals for this year. These goals fall into four categories: financial, spiritual, social, and of course, health-related goals.

Some financial goals:

For the past two years, I have been focusing on putting myself through grad school. Thankfully, I am now almost finished and therefore also finished with paying for it. So, my focus is going to turn to saving now. My goals are as follows: make a budget, stick to it, and save $10,000. That seems like a pretty lofty goal, but I have a good job and I would like to buy a house soon, so I am going to go for it.

Some spiritual goals:

One of the things that is very important to me is my faith. Unfortunately, I have been bouncing around from church to church and my faith has suffered. This year, I want to regain a closer relationship with God. I plan to do this through daily devotionals and making an effort to constantly shift my attitude towards one of thankfulness.

Some social goals:

I have now lived on the North Shore of Boston for a couple of years. I have a few really good friends, but I am hoping to make some new friends. In order to do this, I have signed up for some meet-up groups. However, I am a very shy person so it has been difficult for me to gather the nerve to go to an event where I know nobody. I am going to set a goal to go to at least one meet-up per month.

Some health-related goals:

I made some good progress towards becoming a healthier, happier person in 2012. I hope to continue that progress this year. I am going to plan to eat right and exercise regularly. I will aim for at least 1000 fitness minutes each month and staying within my calorie range at least 90% of the time. Originally, I was thinking of setting a specific weight loss goal (30 pounds by this time next year), but I don't know if that is entirely reasonable. Therefore I will keep my focus on eating good, nutritious foods and exercising regularly and see what happens to my weight.
