Read Matthew chapter 2

If you are a believer then you have heard this story countless times. I just want to look at one item today and that is Herod's attitude. Herod killed an unknown number of babies and toddlers to protect his throne. We look at that cruelty and wonder how someone can do such a thing, yet deep inside me I still remember what I was before I accepted Christ and the Holy Spirit in my life. A pagan, and I use the term for anyone not a Christian, is not led by the spirit of God and is therefore inherently evil. Much of society today want to believe that people are basically good with proclivities to do bad. Scripture teaches us the opposite, we are bent towards evil with the only good coming from the influence of God. Imagine what the world would be like with no morals. The atheistic world, denying the existence of God will eventually degrade to the level of Herod. Self centered with no morality, after all from where does morality come? It is somewhat frightening that within myself there is the potential to be just the same as Herod. I thank God for the Holy Spirit in my life guiding me to do what is good.

From our discussion the other day, I think it important to share with others in this forum a comment you made. The populous of Herod's kingdom was not very many and the number of babies within the age to be destroyed were not as many as we would think with today's population. The mere fact that he killed the innocent babies, whether one or more, is unacceptable.
