13.1 miles! T minus 145 days....

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

So my three mile race with my sister was actually only 2.88 miles...but hey, that is still pretty good....and (drum roll please).......I won! My sister wore the garmin watch so she knew the mileage...I wore my heart rate monitor and watch so at least I knew how much time went by...we took two different routes at the beginning of the race, my sister took off and I tried to keep up. Her pace was too fast, so I slowed down...I had two slight hills instead of the giant hill she chose to go. I made it up the first hill, walked slightly, and then went back to jogging. It was slightly lonely and nerve racking to not be able to know who was ahead, but when our paths crossed, we were literally next to one another. Well I won't let that happen...so I took off...I got a block a head of her, and kept the distance...I kept looking back and pushing myself further, especially when it was down hill. I got a side stitch thingy about half way through and desperately needed a drink of water..I liked that my sister was running behind me, each time I looked back, I got a little more motivation to run faster, farther, etc...

By the end of the race, I was a bit ahead, made it to the finish, and walked back to cheer her on..

I finished my 2.88 mile race in 27:10... Woo hoo!

As a side note, I also got a jogger wave from another jogger (my first...it was so exciting) and a walker wave from an extremely nice women...

Overall, it was a success! Then I drove 6 hours home, ugh, with some cramps legs...

S I get to say goodbye to outside running. We are supposed to be getting a snow storm...I live on the back roads....meaning super narrow road, badly plowed, no shoulders, bad drivers that go way too fast...

I am packing up a bag to keep in my car to run outside down town after work. The sidewalks should be mostly clear...so we shall see how that will go...

I am also trying to figure out if I should weigh in tomorrow or wait until the end of the week she I see my nutritionist...ugh...I am torn...

Well, I am off for the night...hope everyone has an amazing night...

Way to go on the running! On weighing in, do you have a scale that gives you tenths of a pound? I'm always super encouraged even when I've only gone down 0.1 or something like that, even if that's my total for the week. Small progress is still progress!

Hi Kerrielynn wow you are making super progress. When racing or jogging, never look back it slows you down, but more importantly you could step into a hole or uneven surface and fall (and it hurt a lot when it happens) also consider carrying a small bottle of water when you jog to get you use to running with something in your hand, during the half-marathon there will be water stations along the route with people holding cups for you to grab to drink from and stay hydrated which will be essential. In the city please be careful, I would not want you to slip on any ice. Again GREAT job.

Great job on the race. Congrats. I say weigh in. It is what it is. Might as well know where you stand. Maybe you will surprise yourself.
