New Year New Plan

Crossfit training with the personal trainer is still going great! I feel stronger, stand taller and am less jiggly all over. The scale hasn't moved up or down so I'm guessing that since I am physically feeling more conditioned and toned then there must have been a small transfer of fat to muscle.

I do feel that the eating plan I've been following over the past several years is not optimal. While focusing on eating less meats and eating more whole grains and legumes I haven't been able to loose any weight and I don't feel physically any better than I had felt back in the end of 2007. I've decided to move to a combination of Paleo and Raw food plans combining daily juicing and green smoothies. I was originally concerned that adding too much protein back into my diet would aggravate my gout levels but I recently read that an increase in fruits and vegetables (which are alkaline) help to reduce inflammation and acidic blood levels. I had a small gout attack the day after Thanksgiving and sure enough my fruit and vegetable levels were at an all time low leading up to the big day, water consumption was almost nill and cheese & cracker dinners with wine had become a daily indulgence.

The acid/alkaline food balance makes even more sense to me because when I was training for the body building competition I had decreased and finally omitted all fruits, vegetables and grains in the final months of training and started experiencing gout symptoms. I then increased grain, dairy and alcohol consumption immediately after the competition right before I had my first full blown attack. I always have an attack in the winter when I decrease fruits and veggies and start to lean more towards grains and cheese for comfort foods.

But the main reason I've decided to make the nutritional change is because during this past holiday season while attending several gatherings the majority of people I encountered were either, obese, sick or in pain. Some people were 2 or even all 3 of these ailments at the same time. The 3 healthiest people I saw were all eating the Paleo Plan coupled with daily exercise. Granted 2 of these people are half my age but 1 of them IS my age and has lost a lot of weight and gained a great deal of energy since adjusting their lifestyle.

New Year/New Plan

Eat more lean-free range meats & eggs
Eat more raw fruits and vegetables
Drink smoothies on crossfit days
Drink Juices on all other days
Omit grains, beans & dairy
Omit alcohol
Cardio Tue & Thur
Crossfit Wed & Fri

Now...this doesn't mean I can NEVER have ice cream again or NEVER have another glass of wine ever because I can't live with conditions that never allow deviation but my focus these past few years has been a quest for better health so in this quest I will be eating and drinking much, much less of the things that make me feel yucky and much, much more of the things that make me feel good.

To a Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year!

Awesome plan! Adding more fruits and veggies is always a good thing. I need to do the same. When I was concentrating on them more, I swear my hives were less severe. I'll be done a lot of green smoothies as well.
