We went to Buddy's for dinner last night because I wanted the last thing I ate in 2012 and the first thing in 2013 to be expensive vegan pizza. I started my leftover slice at 30 seconds to midnight to guarantee that I would legitimately be eating pizza when the day rolled over.
Even though I can't think of any better way to guarantee good luck than PIZZA, I still made Hoppin' John with collards in the slow cooker overnight. Weirdly, Dave, a Southerner, had never heard of the tradition of eating blackeyed peas for good luck on New Year's morning. Whatever. It was tasty.
