January 1 is not a magic day. Resolutions or wishes don't just happen, a person has to take action to make the resolution or wish become reality.
Although, I have been with SparkPeople a long time, I have yet to be where I want to be physically. I don't consider myself a yo-yo dieter, but anyone looking at my weight chart would think I am a yo-yo. My pattern has been to get serious about food intake and exercise, lose some weight, sustain an injury, then gain back all the weight. I want to change that pattern. I plan to exercise within limits. Certain exercises I will avoid even though I did them when I was under the care of a physical therapist. I will have to strengthen my legs another way. I will do what I can. My best is not the same best as it was 10 years ago. I will focus on doing the best I can at the point I am now.
I plan to focus on fresh. Fresh food isn't magic either, but I plan to enjoy fresh food from my small garden and fresh food from the local farmer's market. Fresh food will be good for me and my family. Fast food is a weakness of mine. It seems so convenient, so easy, so inexpensive. But in reality it is very expensive in the long term. I know I will need to plan healthful lunches so I don't resort to fast food.
What am I going to do differently with exercise? I'd like to do a 5k in the fall, just the walking version. So how am I going to make that happen? I will start walking the dog. A little further every day. I used to be able to go all the way around my neighborhood, but now I am exhausted after half a block. And I am heading back to the fitness center. I quit going to the fitness center because my time was being used to take my daughter to medical appointments and get in my required hours at work. But things seem to have stabilized, and I think I'll be able to go there at least twice a week. But even if I can't get to the fitness center, there is Gypsy to be walked and SparkPeople videos to do at home. I prefer the fitness center to exercising at home because the focus is on fitness and there are no family or pet distractions. I know it can't be all or nothing. If the fitness center is closed, I'll have to exercise at home.
So many things to look forward to in 2013
Bathroom repair and remodel
Sewing daughter's Jr/Sr dress
Daughter's high school graduation
Daughter entering college
Youngest daughter entering high school
All these good things will be even better if I am healthier and have more stamina.
